I always say, saving money is obsolete. I have mostly monthly and quarterly dividend paying stocks, etfs and reits. I've been reinvesting those compounding payments on top of investing earned income.

There is a certain amount of "CURRENT ASSETS" like cash, or things that you can turn into cash quickly to respond to life events and provide you flexibility. For example, car repairs, home improvement/repair, funerals, vacation, etc. A certain amount of cash also gives you flexibility in living arrangements AND negotiation. To have a networth of more than $1 million dollars with less than $2,000 in cash is risky strategy. If you own a home (debt free with no mortgage) and you do traditional repairs, maintenance and investments, it is well above $2,000 per year. To pay monthly living expenses is more than $2,000 per month. So to have less than $2,000 in cash doesn't make a lot of sense. I reserve the right to be WRONG.

@@kenyascott5715 yes you should. I was in the same boat as you two years ago and I felt so overwhelmed. Not sure if you’ve seen the KZbin channel “ Our Rich Journey” ? If not check them out, there’s a video called “how to open a stock account in less than ten mins” that really helped me, in addition to their other videos. Also, a book I highly recommend is called “ The simple Path to Wealth”

There are different schools of thought on that. I say it depends on if you have debt and how long it’ll take you to pay it off. If you have debt then I’d have about 5k handy while you’re paying it off. It also depends on your income, net worth, and how likely you are to lose your job. Dividend ETFs are usually low volatility and very liquid which means you can get your money out fast so some people will keep some money in something like that and some in cash. Of course you can lose money in the short term like that. Some people that make a lot of money will put it on a credit card and pay it off by the end of the month because they have a high credit limit and make enough to do that. Others want it in just cash. The standard average Joe answer is 3-6 months of expenses in cash. Personally, I hate seeing more than about 5k in my account just sitting there doing nothing and not getting compound interest. Whenever I see money, I try to get rid of it and buy some stocks or ETFs. I stay away from gold and crypto. If you don’t know what you’re doing with stocks and 99.9% of people don’t then just get some good ETFs once you have your emergency fund. Mutual funds are almost the same thing but have much higher fees usually so I stay away from them too.

think more pro righteous, less pro black. cant just align with ppl (or not) just because of their profession. yes it's a choice, however we not in a lofty position as black folks so new tactics are needed. Peace to the civilized humans on the planet!
