That part of the video where you asked what people used to do before social media really hit me cause I remember when my mum told me her friend in university met her now husband at a THEATRE...bitch??? THAT'S A WHOLE ROMANCE MOVIE. People were so integrated and life seemed more meaningful back then. When I do a social media detox I am reading and doing art. Sometimes I even go to cafes cause I live in a walkable city. I have this app on my phone called Forest and it grows a tree when you don't touch ur phone, if u do, it dies...totally recommend those apps to help u detox!

One more tip, when you start the day before you start journaling do a 10-15 stretching workout. Its good for the body after you wake up because when you sleep your muscles relax and contract. Work on breathing while you stretch too. After this you can go on with your journal. You will feel much better this way. This way you wld easily spent 20-30mins daily in the morning away from your phone.

things to do on a dopamine detox day! -go biking/ on a walk -make a meal -do laundry (folding too!) -clean kitchen -read -hang out with friends -if you have a pet play with it or give it some love -go on a picnic with friends or s/o -do a craft or art -play board games or card games with family -i love puzzles! do one of those -vacuum -practice a current hobby or start a new one to do on other detox days! id recommend doing this once a week and start to make it almost everyday *with less strict rules such as you can go on your phone for 1 hr or you have to get off your phone after 12:00 pm :D

Here’s what my parents used to do when the Internet didn’t exist: - Write stories ✍️ - Journal - Draw - Play hockey in the streets - Watch TV - Walk outside 🦋 - They would hide in the forest and scatter clues for their friends to find them (for example, arrows that pointed towards where they were headed) - Record radio shows for fun - Jog - Cook 🍪 - Garden - Clean around the house - Go skiing - Go skating ⛸️🛼 - Listen to music on the radio - Listen to full albums And here’s what I do instead of being on my phone: - Make jewelry 💍 - Dance with Just Dance videos (for me it’s more workout than screen time) - Go swing at the park (while listening to music is even better and it makes me feel like I’m flying, but it’s optional: it’s not just music because I’m bored) - Create outfits with the clothes you have in your wardrobe 👗 - Skincare - Clean up messy drawers - Make lists of random things (smells you like, things that make you happy, things you want to draw, etc.) IM EVEN MAKING A LIST RIGHT NOW 📝 - Write poetry - Call friends and catch up - Take care of your plants 😭 - Make some changes to your bedroom - Reorganize your wardrobe - Make a souvenir box - Try new makeup looks I hope these give you some ideas! 💕

it's always important to have a hobby, i think! having something to fall back on like reading, writing, drawing, knitting, doing table puzzles, playing solo card games, etc. is the perfect way to spend hours and hours of time without relying on the instant gratification of social media! tbh i think doing puzzles is a great one bc you get little happy boosts for each individual piece you put in the right place, and then the Big Gratification when you get the whole thing done! i love doing 1000 piece puzzles on the weekends lol

Also, I didn't even notice that music also contributed to the dopamine problem, which makes sense because I listen to music everywhere i go because I'm always bored.

I did this exact thing a year back and it was difficult but i hugely recommend finding ACCESSIBLE and inexpensive hobbies that you can keep up ; reading and finding a genre that will keep your attention and engage you (manga/graphic novels if that's difficult, don't give yourself something you have no interest in) second hand book websites are so cheap, gaming (especially retro gaming bcus the difficulty levels will keep you engaged, these are also available on newer consoles too if you can't buy an older model) jigsaw puzzles are great for your mental health and memory, you can buy a book of crossword puzzles and use it before sleeping or at breakfast before u pick up your phone (I still do this now), learn to crotchet (there's many projects on Pinterest), try a recipe or literally just start cooking more, start a diy furniture project, paint your nails, take a camera out and photograph nature, try a weird make-up look etc etc. Also ofc consider it for more selfless reasons but having a dog made going outside more necessary for me, longer walks, going to the park and pet store, playing in the garden. If your apartment only allows small animals they are just as worth your time and attention, rats, mice, hamsters, love being held and playing in tunnels.

like a week ago i deleted social media off of my phone because i will just spend time scrolling rather than do things that i want to do, and i was a bit fidgety for the first few days, but i've been reading more lately, doing puzzles, my energy is a bit better (i really struggle with fatigue), and just generally been feeling happier and less anxious. even just watching this video without feeling the need to scroll at the same time is crazy for me (i also have adhd, which is only exacerbated by social media). my goal for this year is to have more hobbies and be more present. just thought it was fun that you're doing it around the same time, good luck!

Something that happens when your dopamine levels are high all the time is that, the happy things that aren’t social media get lost in that crowd. Your mind adjusts to your current dopamine levels and so the real happy things in your life are in levels lower than what you can feel vividly.
