Oh, happy day! I just ordered my Festool DF 500 Connector Set and will soon start work on building my own (updated) version of Guido Henn's (not the musician but the master woodcraftsman) "Chaos Theory" wall of combination workshop cabinets + drawers + SysPorts. I hope to reverse some of the natural entropy which has caused my workshop to become far too messy & disorganized for efficient work. My workshop is pretty strong evidence of the operation of the 2d Law of Thermodynamics -- that things over time will become disorganized unless energy is constantly applied.

How did you align the domino in to the spot on T connection at 2:40

All of this shows the hole for the connector being drilled inside the cabinet. Can you drill the hole on the top and bottom of the cabinet?

I'm not taking sides here... But can you tell me why I should choose the Domino connectors over the zeta clamex?
@thefeldons2934

Take sides! Clamex is a superior system by every measure based on what I see here. I’ve been using the Lamello system for years now and it’s a pleasure every time. Their invisible shelf connection system is 100% better than this for cubbies, plus you can use Tenso fasteners for permanent joints without the need for even the small hole used to tighten Clamex connections. Now, if you were choosing between buying a Domino and a Clamex cutter, that would be a different discussion. But for this kind of application just in and of itself, it’s Lamello all the way. No contest. I do a lot of work as a sub for a high end shop; I have to be tooled up the way they are so I have a Top 20 biscuit joiner, Domino joiner, and the P-Zeta Lamello joiner (for Clamex etc.) They all have their respective places in the work I do. If I had to have only one, it would be Domino, but I wouldn’t be happy about it, lol.

@@thefeldons2934 Good points. I only have the Domino (as a hobbyist), so it's great that this system exists even if there is a better system out there. No need for me to have two machines, when the Domino is more all round and I use permanent joinery most of the time. For the occasional piece that's too large and needs to be disassembled, these are still good enough I think.

I finally got around to using these connectors today. I'm summarily unimpressed. Spent about 3 hours practicing and trying to get them to function correctly before I gave up. I'll try them again but I pretty much think they're trash at the moment. Very disappointed.

That is awesome, thank you. I'm just getting ready to rebuild my workbench using SYSAZ drawers, I want to have about 9 or 10 on each side. I have a basement shop and want to be able to disassemble it and take it with me when I retire in a few years - this is a perfect solution! @chesapeakewoodworker

This looks overly clunky to me, vs. the Lamello P-Zeta system. Domino is a great tool overall, and if you can’t justify the additional expense of the Lamello, this system could be the solution to certain problems. But if you intend on doing a lot of knock down furniture or make a lot of enclosed shelves like cubbies and the like, Lamello is hands down the better option.

I think to a lot of folks that's like telling a photographer with a full Canon or Nikon system to get a Leica macro lens.

This makes no sense to me. I guess if you have to have furniture that you can easily disassemble, then yeah, but that’s got to be a tiny market. The fasteners are way too fiddly to use on customer-assembled furniture, a la Ikea. Just glue it and screw it.

DOMINO connectors come in handy when assembling things like cabinets, countertops, large second-floor furniture (bed frames, armoires), and anything that larger than a door that it needs to fit through.

@@3xperience I just built quad bunk beds that had to be knockdown to be able to get into the condo unit and then the bedroom. It was challenging but in the end worked perfectly. So for large furniture it is the ticket

This machine does nothing that I cannot do with a biscuit joiner and/or Kreg screws - and if I really need extra strength in a joint, I use a sliding dovetail OR a locking Mitre joint....and all for a lot less money than one of these pieces of kit..!!!
