Getting Started With Middle-Earth SBG: Halls of Thranduil

This is the one army I want to run is ME, I think the combo here is Tharanduil and palace guard, no matter if he is on foot or not, and some Mirkwood rangers since they don’t count towards bow limit, I have heard that Mirkwood cav is pretty meh and no one really takes armoured elves, because palace guards and rangers are just better in every way, you always have Legolas and Tauirel too and palace guard captain is a popular pick

I always prefer to run Thranduil on foot then on a mount he gets more attacks on foot and though the stag gives you a strength 5 on the charge I prefer him in the middle of the battle line buffing the troops. I always run a lot of the standard Mirkwood warriors with sword and shield in the front with the back line around Thranduil being the palace guard for the F6 and body guard and then around the edge of your line being Mirkwood warriors with glaves and bows. Palace guard are great but at 14 points if they aren’t close to Thranduil they aren’t worth 14 points so spamming them is wasting a lot of points IMO the rangers are too pricy to spam out a solid number its always good to have 1 or 2 to sit on Obj and shoot whilst they have an eleven cloak but as elves are so expensive points wise I tend to only ever bring maybe 1 because a 14 point model being d3 isn’t ideal. Also a Mirkwood elf sentinel is a great pick for the army as well!
