Getting Started with NASA Worldview

During this demonstration, we will introduce you to the NASA Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Worldview imagery mapping and visualization application. This tool provides the capability to interactively browse over 900 global, full-resolution satellite imagery layers. Many of these layers are updated daily and are available within three hours of observation. Also available are geostationary imagery layers which are provided in ten-minute increments for the last 30 days. These full-disk hemispheric views allow for almost real-time viewing of changes occurring around most of the world - essentially showing the entire Earth as it looks "right now". Worldview’s easy-to-use map interface lets you interactively explore NASA Earth science imagery to see hurricanes forming, wildfires spreading, icebergs drifting, and city lights illuminating.

Thanks...will the maps prior to February 2000 be available anytime soon? Or are they available in general in HD?

Hi Nik, NASA's Terra mission launched on December 18, 2000 so the first corrected reflectance data from that mission is available for early 2000.

Thanks for informative videos. I havd a question which only NASA can answer. Is there a site where one could also see the planets position on any dates with some other optional tools of resolutions, etc, similar to the GUI that you used for your webinar. Thank you.

Can i see real time (live) satellite imsge of the earth?

Hi Parvez, NASA Worldview provides the capability to view near real-time imagery (so generally within 3-4 hours of data acquisition). What is the resolution?

Hi Francisco, the resolution will vary depending upon the data imagery layer. The highest resolution data that is accessible in NASA Worldview is the Harmonized Landsat Sentinel-2 (HLS) imagery layer at 30-meters resolution.
