I was already working on this and had some trouble so thankfully this video popped up. If you aren't starting from a clean 73Linux install and are having rigctl issues run "rigctl -l". If that fails to list a ton of radios run "sudo ldconfig /usr/local/lib/" and restart. that solved all my problems. thanks for another great video Jason!

Don't underestimate the demands for terminal command use. Consider a second part or second video on command line configurations and possible details of the inner workings. Also, there are still plenty of Pi users so don't forget them.

VARA FM and VARA HF need WINE. Getting those two to start took me a weekend on Linux Mint Debian edition. 73 did not help with that bit. In the end i nuked my laptop and started with a fresh install and did it without 73.

Thanks for the great information you provide. Right now I'm excited but frustrated with Winlink. I have set up 73 Linux and have gotten most everything to work with my FT-891. The only issue now is it's "unable to get frequency from rig my-rig: dial tcp 0.0.0.0:4532: connect: connection refused. I'm not an expert with this so it could be a straight forward fix. I use a Signalink and have not issues with psk31 or WSJTX. I use an old MacBook Pro running Linux Mint. Thanks again for the assist. 73, KP

I have the same issue using FT-991A and Raspberry Pi 5 "Unable to get frequency from rig my-rig: dial tcp 127.0.0.1:4532: connect: connection refused." have tried a few things without any luck.. Cheers - VK5ZEY

I never have the Vara FM option during installation. Where am I missing this?

Another great video, Jason. Is there a way to get Flrig to change the modes automatically (i.e. to DIG and PKT as appropriate) rather than having to do it manually? I have to try this out soon. 73 de N6EF.

Great video Jason. I'll have to dig out my Evolve 3 Mint machine and give this a try. Is there a similar video which is MAC centric? I tried following the MAC instructions from the PAT web site and a few other sources and have had no joy.

Looking very promising, but since it doesn't seem to support the forms function in Winlink Express, not very useful for emergency communications. I would love an alternative to Winlink Express that was cross-platform... but it has to do everything Winlink Express does. WE is definitely long in the tooth at this point (simple things like dragging a message from one folder to another continue to frustrate).

Pat supports all of the forms found in Express.

I’ve tried 73 Linux the other day but unfortunately didn’t worked for me and had to reimagine my PI because for the life of me I can’t get my FT-710 to work with WSJTX or any digital mode. It receives but won’t transmit. Tried every single option under audio without success. I have made research since then and apparently nobody’s has been able to set it with the 710.

Linux Mint on a laptop but the instructions should work on all flavors of Debian based Linux including the Pi
