For me as well. Other tutorials are extremely impatient and go too fast... while this pace is perfect 👌

I hooked up the new keyboard, and everything worked like a charm. All the commands you put in th video worked. Not sure if the other beginner video you made for a few versions ago will work the same, I am about to go and try it out there. Thanks again for all your help and advice. You have a subscriber here and I will probably get into the purchased vids as well once I get up to speed and can work more smoothly in this program.

Awesome to hear that! I hope the other stuff works. Really the main thing that has changed from older versions of Plasticity is the right-click to confirm. It used to be a double-click and now its a single. Most of the core shortcut keys are still the same.

Good tutorial dude. Just a hint in regards of the fillet tool: you don't have to search in which direction the fillet or the chamfer is. When the edge is selected, just press D for fillet or C for chamfer and drag the mouse. Et voila!
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Ай бұрын
Cool tip! That makes the drag always away from the last selection. Ill try to commit that one to muscle memory :)

Great video ! I'm fairly new to 3d printing and this reallyl helped. I like that you don't use shortcut keys too much. The concepts are already difficult for me not being an engineer. Right now I mostly just use the menu. What I find really confusing is when there are options to select objects for a function but it is not clear which one I am really working on. Many times I have right clicked when I thought I was done and then everything just goes away. I know I will get it and I love the program. Thanks again for a video that I can almost keep up with.

Thanks! I think with the next update coming "i think" soon there will be a bit of a UI overhaul and hopefully some tool tips on tools to help. With Plasticity it can be tricky to know which selections are needed for a tool. Like Loft for example. And which selections you can pick after you start the tool. Just stick with it and it will become more comfortable with practice!

Another fantastic video! Your teaching me from scratch! Sometimes you lose me because you do go fast, but i'd rather get that and use the backup feature ;-) For sure, that 1, 3, 7 plane hot key puts you in a "mode" for some of those things you did... would be great to make sure we can see if you have that "X (Top)" displayed at the top center of your screen, etc. Much thanks!

Thanks! And ill keep the tip in mind about the viewcube/plane for sure. Generally it says at the top center of the screen but its pretty small.

thanks for this video. I am new to 3D printing and modeling and got the testversions of shapr3d and now plasticity. I messed around for one evening and got really frustrated with both of them working in 3d space but not finding the buttons to navigate in space. The same was true with basic modeling. Now after this video both navigation and modeling features are clear to me and tonight I will work with them. I do like the interface of shapr3d but refuse to buy a subscription for 355€/year. Since the main purpose for me is to create simple gadgets for use in my garage and kitchen to get better organized, I prefer the Indie1.1 with a one time purchase. I am the only non commercial user and don’t need complicated modeling features in the near future.

Happy to help. Coming from no background can be tough for sure! If you are considering Fusion as an option as well we have some absolute beginner content for that on www.LearnEverythingAboutDesign.com I do have it on my list to do some organizers/trays in Plasticity. My junk drawer and a few other areas have some that I made like to organize batteries and random stuff. it helps!

Hello, I'm a beginner who watched a video in South Korea. Your video made me buy an indie version of the program on the 30th. I am studying 3D modeling as a sketch-up in interior design, but I got to know Blender while looking for a program for furniture design, I found the Fusion360 difficult to compatible with the blender. In the meantime, I saw a program called Plasticity on your KZbin channel and found out that it was the program I wanted. This program can be designed using dimensions and has good flexibility. Fusion 360 is too complicated, and it's applied to sketchup, but it's been too hard to apply to blenders. I personally appreciate this tutorial. I'll master all the other videos as well. Thank you again. I'll pray that everything goes well with you. Thank you.

2:40 to compare Maya to blender saying you create with meshes is a bit oversimplified Blender seems to me to be inherently poly based and when I last used Maya although it could do both excelled at nurbs based modeling
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign 16 күн бұрын
Fair point! Although Maya is in the same category as Blender and 3d studio. They are made for video/animation/vfx type workflows. While Fusion, Solidworks, Inventor etc are typically "engineering" software. I am on the Engineering side so that is mostly my interpretation of content ive seen on Maya and the times i've tested it, but I don't use it professionally. For whatever that is worth :)

Would it be possible to do a video on curves ? I love your videos ,but spent an age trying to draw to parallel lines, i also struggle with alignment of things, snapping etc . All very basic but so important.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Ай бұрын
Great suggestion! Most of the curves content is baked into other videos but maybe a video just on curves would be good. I do have a few beginner workflow series on this channel and some videos on 3d printing do focus a bit on curves. Just some general notes for you. When working with curves, working on a construction plane is key. look next to the cursor and make sure it says the plane you are on like XY. When you want to make 2 lines parallel you can start a second line, then before you place the second point(end point) hover over the line you wish it to be parallel with and tap SHIFT. that should bring up a parallel projection for you.
@shokk1967
@shokk1967 Ай бұрын
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign thank you ,I figured out a parallel line using construction lines. But I trawled thought countless videos. I know it's not parameteric, but aligning, shaping and generally trying to get the object looking square and mirrored would be great .

More please getting on a bit now, so learning this stuff aint easy. I messed it up even following your instructions. Just a question some of the keys etc are not doing anything, what am I doing wrong.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Ай бұрын
It takes a little bit to get the workflow down so stick with it! On the keys not working, that is hard to say. I do notice that if the cursor is over the Outliner on the left side that keys don't tend to work. Other than that some tools don't work unless you have something preselected. For example if you have nothing selected and you hit L for the loft tool, nothing will happen. You need to have at least 2 curves selected before it will work. So it might be possible that the keys or commands you are trying just need a selection.

I'm trying to figure out if plasticity3d it's suitable for woodworking like cabinet, or it's better to use Fusion 360 or Sketchup?

Thanks for great video. Your videos have helped me alot but one thing i can’t figure out is how do i merge to different curved edges into one edge. I have searched all over the internet but cant find the answer. I will greatly appreciate your suggestion.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Ай бұрын
Hey There, if by edge you mean a curve (like a line or a spline) you can use the Join command which is J on the keyboard. The endpoint need to be touching for that to work. You can also use Unjoin to break them apart.

When you hit F to bring up the commands, if you right click on any of them you can reset the shortcut key to whatever you want. That way you don't need to rely on Shift :)
