@Tracy Candish for the 7D if you want to use your new 600EX-RT off-camera using wireless radio transmission, then the Canon ST-E3-RT is the best option, as would another 600EX-RT for use on-camera as a master flash. The optical wireless mode built into the 600EX-RT is backwards-compatible w/ all Canon optical-compatible flashes. Radio wireless ONLY works w/ the 600EX-RT or ST-E3-RT on-camera & 600EX-RT flashes off-camera. All other Canon flash units require optical wireless usage.

While we do not have a specific poll or database of gear used by professional photographers (and B&H is not a Authorized Yongnuo Dealer and do not currently carry their products), professional photographers have been known to use whatever gear they need to accomplish their goal and capture the images they need. As long as the gear works and is reliable, a professional photographer can test it and find a use for it in their arsenal, whatever the particular piece of equipment may be.

f you are shooting in low lighting and having issues auto- focusing, then yes, the Canon 430EX II Speedlite Flash would be beneficial for your needs. As the flash has an AF-assist beam on the front of the flash, in low lighting situations, it would briefly emit a red grid on your subject to give your camera something on which to focus. When focusing on the center of the frame, the beam's estimated effective range is approx. 2.3 X 32.8 ft; the peripheral effective range would be 2.3 X 16.4 ft.

You can use the 430EX II off camera with a wire or wireless. A cable like the Interfit Multi-Fit TTL Cord for Nikon/Canon/Fuji Cameras (32'/10m), will do it with TTL. To use it wirelessly, you have three options. 1 Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 mounted on-camera. 2. Speedlite 580EX II mounted on-camera, and set to its "Master" flash mode 3. Integrated Speedlite Transmitter: EOS 7D, EOS 60D, and EOS Rebel T3i only (As of February, 2011) Dennis

The flash is part of Canon's e-TTL system. TTL systems expose light based on meter readings taken by the camera of the ambient light, distance measured by the flash, and then based on the flash's pre-flash output on the subject. Just prior to the shutter opening the flash fires many bursts of light (typically so fast the human eye thinks it's only seeing a single burst) onto the subject. The camera evaluates each burst and correctly adjusts the final burst for when the shutter opens. - Yossi

I'm not a serious professional, but have followed a lot of the same technique with a single flash in manual, along with the camera being in manual mode. It re-enforces a lot of what I know and answers a lot of questions for things I need to know. Now, just to buy more equipment. :)

@Kathy Cypriano Without knowing how your flash is set, I cannot assist you. According to the instruction manual that came with your flash, on page 31 under Troubleshooting, it states if the entire LCD panel is blinking, the wide panel has been pulled out for bounce flash, and you should retract the wide panel. Other than recommending reading your instruction manual, I would recommend contacting Canon directly to see if there is any other cause to your current flash's flashing LCD panel.

The Canon 430EX II is a very nice Speedlite. Only thing, when working wirelessly using the integrated transmitter found on the EOS 7D & 60D, you can't manually make flash setting changes via the camera software, that seems to only work when the 430EX II is attached via the hot shoe. Once there is a physical/hardware connection between the Speedlite and EOS 7D or 60D, it works great. P.S. EXCELLENT Tutorial. Thanks.

You need to activate High-speed flash to use shutter speeds faster than 1/200s. Your other option is to use a ND-filter if you want to use wide apertures.

One difference between the Canon 5D Mark II and the Canon 60D is the 5D Mark II doesn't have a built-in flash. The 60D has a built-in flash that can be used as a wireless controller to trigger other Canon E-TTL II compatible flashes wirelessly. As the 5D Mark II doesn't have a built-in flash, you'd have to purchase either a second Canon 550EX/580EX/580EX II flash to use on-camera as a master flash, or purchase the Canon ST-E2 Wireless Transmitter to trigger your off-camera flashes wirelessly.

This is the fundamental difference with shooting flash manually vs. TTL. Shooting at manual settings is always a constant output at whatever setting you're set at. It?s output is consistently the same, it?s both measurable and can be repeated/replicated if needed. TTL is not. In TTL the camera can make various adjustments to its own settings as well as to the flash?s to give the perfect exposure each time. Y.O.

Ok so I procrastinated for a while (like a year) and finally got to see Syls video. I am very impressed with the content and has given me some great ideas that I can now apply in my workflow. I try to shoot single speedlite and I have a better understanding of the accessories I need to get that done and more so, off camera. Been an on camera flash person and I definitely need to get out of that mode (just like getting out of the "Auto" mode into the creative or manual mode which I did a while ago). I just need to make the choice of getting another 600EXRT or STE3RT then add the reflector and umbrella or softbox. Good Job Syl Arena

>> since the Prolinca 40203 Flash Trigger was made for film cameras, that it will most likely not work on a digital camera like the 40D. Why is that? This may have been in the video but I would like to ask you. While I'm outside shooting with my flash and I have it mounted on my camera to use as a fill, when I take the picture of my subject the entire picture ends up being way over exposed. So I try to raise my shutter speed above 200 but it ends up doing nothing. And usually I'll be trying to shoot at 2.8 so I can get that nice bokeh. And I'm forced to take the aperture to 5.6 or something similar. Any pointers?
