It sounds like you are getting a grasp on the nursery business. You guys are awesome to see running a family business.

We had the same experience with our annuals/veggies. The 2 days before opening we had temps around 35 - had to take every single tray into the basement - what a pain! We had about 40 trays. We did save them all, so it was worth it.

A very important video! It links into my comment from last week. I learned A LOT this year. I tried cannas and mums for the first time this year.. Cannas look great but, they needed to be in full bloom 4 weeks ago…. I started my mums way too early and they are blooming in the spring and not fall.. This is how we learn! I plan on building a greenhouse this winter. It should be a game changer when I am getting my plants to in bloom for the spring season.. Sorry I am missing your last weekend sale. Enjoy that recliner and tall glass of iced tea this afternoon. God bless you and your family! Thank you for putting your adventure here for us all to see and learn from!

Even when you think you know everything there is always temperature changes water Sun and animals and other variable yes you can start to early with indoor seeds. Know your plants and what they do . That is why a test outdoor garden space for plants instead of throwing them out is great to have. At least you found your wholesaler in that time. There is always a silver lining or as I say turning lemons into lemonade. Keep up the great work

Timing has been crazy for me this year! Native plants just won’t germinate when you want/need them to. This fall, I will start the stratification MUCH earlier, and I will stratify three different ways to ensure germination somewhere between the three! Natives grow more slowly than regular plants, I think, too.

How long do you water your plants with the sprinkler? Especially in the heat. Another great video!
@savvydirtfarmer6 ай бұрын
Usually 12 minutes... but that will vary GREATLY depending on your water pressure.

@@savvydirtfarmer thank you. That's very true. But I've been overwatering at 30 minutes.
@savvydirtfarmer6 ай бұрын
@@mariavelikonja3317 If you're overwatering at 30, cut it back to 20 for a few days and see how that does. Should be fairly easy to get straightened out.

I am starting propigating on my lime lite after in the the tray of 30 and they leaf out where do you keep the in the winter, I keep others in shed but those plants handle cold temps so the question is where do you put them during the winter

What percentage shade cloth are you using? Here in Kansas my ground temp was 130 in my garden area surface. below the wood chips it was 74. Do you think I should use the white material.
@savvydirtfarmer7 ай бұрын
About 50%. I've never used white. It has advantages, but wouldn't sweat using one of the other.

So I am disabled. Love propagating. I enjoy doing tree form plants. I have wanted to sell some for extra money for years . I can't do a full sized nursery . Would it to be worth it to specialize in tree form plants? I need something as disability isn't enouph. Also it gives me something to do. I am mostly blind.
@savvydirtfarmer6 ай бұрын
You don't need a "full sized nursery." You need pint sized nursery - a you sized nursery - one you can handle. Could be a couple hundred square feet or smaller and you can make more from that space than you might think if you manage it correctly. You can make specialization work; you can make variety work.

It could be your area. Marketplace has been phenomenal for me. I get a few 'is it available', and I just have a nice paragraph that I copy/paste in as a response. Sometimes that's it, and other times we engage in dialogue and they come out and buy things. I also have not had anyone haggle on price. But then again, I'm priced at $10.95, which is a great deal for my area. What has been a waste of time is all the buy/sell/free groups - those are the bargain hunters and I stay away from those. I do engage in the gardening groups.
