Your stuck in the intellect! Exactly where this Sutra demands a release!

Why don't you explain how and where he is doing that (being stuck in the intellect) show us what in the heart sutra convinces you of your claim that he is stuck in the intellect. Do you use your intellect when you read it, study it or do you just mechnically robotically chant it?

This guy reminds me of someone who, with wine glass in hand, enchants his captive dinner party audience with a story of the time he considered climbing Mt. Everest, but backs out because he figured the view would be uninspiring. Actually, he never makes it past base camp because he's constantly throwing up due to altitude sickness. Stay at sea level, SB, where you belong.

Such a good point about relative/absolute truth ....rather than a pluralistic 'middle way' view in as far as we cannot prove any particular claim/ideology - yet ordinary lay people may still commit ourselves to the value of Buddhist teachings/tasks to promote a compassionate, courageous, wise and constructive life; whatever our circumstances. Thanks also, SB for the idea of karma as action based on intention rather than simple cause/effect or inherited circumstances. And for explaining the ego problem, as you see it, as being attachment to self - not whether we are self or not-self. I am influenced by Nichiren Buddhism and find chanting an easier/more effective form of meditation - would love to hear SB's thoughts on this and the 10 worlds/life states view.

It does make sense to me that the world is man created - mostly in survival and therefore ego is in charge. It makes sense that is what Samsara is. The idea when we apply absolute truth to relative truth so they may align, then, eventually, that would shift our experience in the relative reality. I also feel that there is a point in time where we are able to take off the armor that we have created and has imprisoned out true nature and have it take it proper place which is under the jurisdiction of spirit, Buddha Nature, Holy Spirit. Like a hologram, the ego is no longer running the show on its own but is under the jurisdiction of our Buddha Nature/Holy Spirit and continually adjusting. That is the work towards becoming awake. (my version of understanding).

I really like your explanation alot ! Indeed, ego is one of the key reasons for our dukka.

It’s interesting. I’ve never come across. Stephen before but I had battled with. some of the things he was saying like how can God be permanent and unchanging in a permanent and ever changing world and if he is in a different world, how can we have any relationship with that? with the two truths. I can’t coped a method in my mind. that Shunyatta was ultimate non-dualistic and Samsara was conventional dualistic 😂 Well, it kind of worked for me now. I’m not so sure.

THESE IDEAS DO NOT EVEN MESH WITH THE FOUNDATIONAL PRACTICES. The 2 TRUTHS ARE TAUGHT AT EVERY LEVEL OF BUDDHISM.

Regarding early Buddhist understanding of emptiness, which imo SB misconstrues here, see a crucial review article by Rupert Gethin, 'On the nature of dhammas'

To me, the four Noble truths are basics and make a lot of sense. Simply put: life is suffering; there is reason for that; there is a way out of that and then the eight fold path. You have called the Four noble Truths, the fourNoble tasks at one time... sometimes playing around with semantics is a little bit confusing. Buddhism is not supposed to be a religion. It is to be a path for betterment and liberation (from ego I suspect). ...and when we can there, we are not to be attached to the vehicle but to let it go. ...soooo. seems to me, you maybe contesting the establishments of Buddhism - where it feels like they created it into a religion with its many facets, just like Christianity . I like the freedom way in the USA...where we learn...from different teachers etc... and to make sure that we do not take any of it as a belief system - check it out for ourselves and get our own understanding of it and as we do, then gradually shift our consciousness, heal our pain and come to a personal understanding of how life works. NO?

on the way out of it is to reframe it. Simply turning it around and changing the meaning.. I could be wrong but isn’t useful to say my problem is empty therefore no problem? Is a simple reframe.

Why do you look in pali canon. Emptiness is found in the Sanskrit canons, Mahayana sutra of the middle Dharma wheel

I think SB does more harm than good with his take on the Heart Sutra. Like throwing out the baby with the bath water.

This man talks a lot but says hardly anything. it is simple: this talk is heard but it is void of meaning accept for those who are bound to the wheel of samsara and want to believe it

Yes, much of what he says feels quite jarring to our normal teachings. It’s a good time to take a big breath.
