One of the reasons one gets a different sound from the two fingers is the fact that with the index finger you are grabbing more of the string. With the middle finger the tendency is to play off the tip of the finger. It's more difficult to get the "hook" sound on the middle finger.

Hi Bob. I found this lesson really helpful. Great ideas around isolation each plucking finger and hearing the chord movements. I had some similar ideas but these ones have definitely clicked with me. I'm also finding string muting at faster tempos is much more challenging. I'll check out more of your Open Studio stuff. Thanks again.
