Have you ever considered the "Real Great People" mod? It is mainly just visual in that it adds portraits/pictures/statues of the great people in the GP tab, but it also shows you how many turns every player is away from getting the next great person in each category at their current GPP income

You should have taken control of MD for fresh water waaaay sooner instead of killing tiles for aqueducts. It gives you map visibility and triggers liberation wars as I recall. Roads!!! You could be winning games like 5-10 turns faster if you'd move your traders around more. Roxburgh would probably be a 4 pop city by the time Petra finishes if you'd have traded with your capital.

Small optimization: When you ask an AI to join an ongoing war and they only ask for 1 gold in return, that means you can ask for more stuff in that same trade deal and still only have to pay 1 gold. This is because the AI already wanted to go to war with that civ and actually assigns a negative value to their own trade offering, but still has to ask for a token 1 gold to make it an actual trade instead of a gift.

This bothers me as well and its something he has consistently done for years. @PotatoMcWhiskey... small optimization tip: units gain an extra 2 experience for killing units... which doesn't sound like much, but that's 40% more than a normal attack. Always shoot with your cities first for damage and then make the kill with a unit. I often ignore city shots entirely unless I'm desperate.

@@50crowley I used to have this mentality. But I improved my diety game and win times so much by caring less about these things. Yes get the exp when you can. But you can easily win diety with 0 exp units. Veteran units are great, but you know what's better? Shaving turns by killing the enemy army quicker and being able to retaliate a turn or two earlier. Turns into getting their capital 5 turns earlier. Turns into winning 10 turns sooner. That's not saying that SOMETIMES it's not the right call. But if getting the kill with my cities free hit lets me move the unit closer to an offensive position more quickly it's way more important than 2xp. Tl;dr You don't need veteran units to win quickly. You need to capture capitals earlier to win fast. Though in a defensive game like this (which is dull af so I never do) it might ve a bit different.

So tall means not many cities but each city you do have has very high population.

@@SkyReviewsNet depends on how you define specialized. In a wide game each city may only have 2-3 districts but frequently it’s difficult to get the production for higher tier buildings. In a tall game you’re almost always going to be putting tier three buildings in every district you make. So in a wide game your cities are more specialized bc they do fewer things, but in a tall game they’re more specialized bc they do things better

How would you define 'tall'? Because clearly, you're spamming out quite a few cities there - and they're fairly close together. I mean, back in Civ 5, 'tall' meant exactly 3 cities (to rush ideologies with 3 factories) with so many pop that overlapping city areas would be harmful. To me this just says that Civ 6 still isn't supposed to be played tall. :(

In civ 6 there are huge bonuses for placing cities close together, regardless of wide (low pop, many cities) vs. tall (high pop, few cities). Thats because districts provide adjacency bonuses to each other, so for instance one industrial zone benefits massively from taking adjacency with two cities’ close-packed aqueducts. You can only accomplish this with nearby cities because almost all districts can only be built once per city.

In six I would typically consider five or six playing tall bc that’s usually about the max you can pack into a 6-9 tile radius and that’s what most of the AOE effects from districts do. But I’m also trash at this game so idk

His city is better though cause it still has room for better housing improvements on the non desert and ocean. Petra cities that go to hard for the deep deserts often wind up with stellar production but nerfed population holds them back later in the game. Ofc in a scotland game where amenities are so crucial a lower population might not be awful based on your strat.

The AI always trys to do that in trades. Ever since I got a mod that allows me to see what luxuries/resources I have stockpiled even within the trade screen, I've noticed a very huge amount of the luxury trades AI suggest to you are complete and total ripoffs. Probably like 40% or more. Great works trades too: if you have great works themed, the AI will target those great works in trades before any of them that aren't themed.

Kinda small note but totally should've traded a lump sum for the citrus instead of the 9 for 30 turns when Sweden was on your doorstep. Once she declares war you get all of that gold per turn right back! If the trade works and they like you wonderful, if not and they declare war you still keep the total money and get the amenity back!
