FDNY: the bravest guys on the planet, then and now. They are right up there with the 1st and 29th infantry divisions on D-Day; the Eight Air Force during all of WWII; and the 3rd, 4th and 5th Marine divisions at Iwo Jimo. FDNY thanks for your service to the country and to each other.

Great show as always. Love to see the old job being highlighted. Steve B was in my proby class in 1980. When we were assigned all new probys went to engines because we had lost five young guys in trucks in two years.

It was 343 on 9/11/01 alone! How many more to 9/11 diseases and cancers, and I’m pretty sure there have been a few reservists killed in action while on active military duty with their reserve units. I know Law Enforcement lost 23 NYPD, 37 Port Authority Cops. Since there have been over 200 killed with 9/11 related diseases and cancers.

Great video as always. As a history buff of the FDNY I love learning more about these houses. I do have one request if I may. My son dreamed of being a Firefighter for the FDNY. Unfortunately his life was cut short at the young age of 16 from sudden cardiac arrest. I have tried calling headquarters to see if I can have him made an Honorary Firefighter but no luck. Emailed the Commissioner , nothing. Do you know anyway I can make his dream a reality? I thank you for your videos and time. David

@@markfryer9880 At the time I was experimenting with film speed and a new camera and just happened to see the scene in the mirror while taking the picture of the engine. Go figure!. I have the original hanging in my home along with a picture of the building. You'll also notice the banner painted blue I painted the blue in 1976 and another firefighter, Frank Lijoi, from 55 painted a fife and drum trio in red and white, celebrating the 1776 bicentennial on the front doors. The fire dept. made us cover the doors after the bicentennial celebration was over. A real shame but for a while it looked really nice and won second place in the door contest . Disney came out with a picture featuring the Engine 55 Building and company rig with a firefighter talking with Donald Duck, Mini and Mickey Mouse and goofy. you can google that. I also have that picture here. Little Italy is and was a very interesting place to work.
