Thanks Tim! This is all very timely for me because my wife and grandson and myself are here right now today and a little bit of tomorrow and we were just talking about this. First time in fifteen years that we have been able get back here but I watch your videos every chance I get. Thanks again! Ed from Lynchburg

Thanks so much! I am trying to get a committee together at the Franklin Co Historical Society to mark the Civil War buildings in Chambersburg. I'm very interested to learn how it was done in Gettysburg.

Where was Lee on the battlefield when he said “Never fight uphill me boys”. Is that one of those seldom visited spots?

I was SURE when Tim mentioned the seals he was going to count them as an animal

If we are counting partial animals (i.e. heads) Can we also count the buck tail on the 42nd PA?

Does the plaque come with any responsibilities? (that they may not alter the look of the building and so on). Does the plaque follow the property or the building? (what if they move the old to a new location?). SHOULD these old houses be protected? (I guess the price is higher for those who have one, so there is/was an incentive to get one)
@timothysmith77426 ай бұрын
Not really! It is interesting that several have been torn down. Several have been renovated. One thing though. The sale price of building has been increased by having a Civil War plague on your building.

So those 30 odd newer buildings with plaques, shouldn't they be removed?
@timothysmith77426 ай бұрын
It's actually a little more complicated than I made it sound. There are several buildings that have a plaque on them, that have been greatly altered. For instance, there is a building on York Street and one on Chambersburg Street where the plaques refers to the a small portion of the back of the house as being original, but a huge addition was placed in front of it. There is no authority to remove the ones that are wrong.

That was different. Are there buildings that on the US historical landmarks register?
@timothysmith77426 ай бұрын
If you mean, are there buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, yes, a few. But the town is on the historic register as a whole. So for many years, the borough discourage individual registrations. Recently, however, there is a new initiative to include buildings individually, so we may have more in the near future.

Here are two links where he is using some kind of peg, no really a wooden leg, but similar. jmarkpowell.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Sickles-use-this.jpg www.loc.gov/item/2004673094/

Longstreet monument. Sure, it's a late addition...but a Gettysburg monument nonetheless. Please. Heck, talk about the artist himself, if not the (lack of) history about it.
