I’m binge watching every GettysburgNPS lecture and other channels regarding this battle as I prepare for my second visit to the park in 30 years. Ranger Gwinn’s portion of the lecture explaining the various perceptions of the fog of battle as witnessed by different veterans who were at the same action resonated with me as a Marine infantry officer veteran. It’s so true how combat can have so many viewpoints from men in even in the same place at the same time. This is an OUTSTANDING lecture. One of the best I’ve watched! Well done.

Great presentation!! As a Maine native and Army veteran, I love hearing the "back story" of these events. Wonderful job. By the way, I've been to Joshua's in Brunswick; delicious burgers!!

Unforgettable presentation. I am one of those who have visited the mystical Little Round Top. But I learned a lot more about what we know, and what we may never know, from this presentation. Bravo!

My late husband & I went up to Little Round Top one summer night 8 years ago it was pitch black out. We took a video and the 2 things that were unexplained are chilling. The video is on my youtube channel. I have never been moved by any other place I have visited like I have been and continue to be each time I visit Gettysburg. I do not understand why I am so drawn to that hallowed place. I still visit even though I greatly miss my late husband with me. I will be going up this end April for my birthday. I know most women would not want to celebrate their birthday at Gettysburg; I just can’t explain my pull to this area. The first time I ever went on to the Wheatfield battlefield I was overcome with emotion as the guide told the story of what happened on that particular battlefield. I had to walk away from the other visitors in my group because I just could not control my sobbing thinking about the men that lost their life.

"What I do not know... I know how to learn." - JL Chamberlain. For this reason, he is one of my favorite personalities of the period and beyond, the modern question about the bayonet charge notwithstanding.

Are there any plans to fix the mess that was allowed to happen with plum run turning the valley of death into a lake? Threatening the 40th NY monument?

RE: citations about the bayonet charge I don't believe any of the quotes provided from JLC subsequent to his July 1863 report directly conflict or literally change his earliest version. If there's any real confusion in *his* mind, it's perhaps born of the fact that other men like Spear speak up to challenge them years later, and maybe he starts to second guess hinself.

Not to be argumentative or negative, but I live across the river where JLC lived. We know that; someone ordered bayonets, Spear wasn't in command of the regiment and that neither JLC or Spear went to West Point, rather, Spear was a student at guess where? Bowdoin College, the same place where JLC was a professor.

I think it is wrong to vilify Warren on the basis of the taunting gossip of a few of his detractors. Men can be as bad as women as far as gossip goes and a group of men that were never even close to a man during his lifetime certainly should not be allowed to change true history. Jealousy and criticism were as common as death especially among officers and the men under them. Always be mindful of revisionist history. We should read all the historical accounts and not just pick and choose the ones that we prefer to believe. Look back at how much the lectures on this battle have changed over the years. One person concentrates on the most common accounts while others choose what they prefer to believe. I do not believe that Warren would have demanded a review of what happened when he was removed from duty if he thought that he had done something wrong. We are supposed to discount him on the word of people who ridiculed the way he looked?? That is not history. At any rate there were many people involved in what was happening at Gettysburg. What one saw others did not. Being just a few yards away could change the perception of what was happening at any given time. All manner of activity was happening in a confusing manner. Some saw and heard one thing while others were seeing and hearing other things. One account may be true as well as some of the differing accounts. You cannot change, however, who died and who did not.
