It was a nice coincidence. Some people, including me, believe that the cover makes a pickup sound more creamy and bassy, with notes more like melted (its hard to explain). A pickup without cover sounds clearer. Anyways I was looking for more of that creamy tone on my neck pickup. Later I realized thats how JP's classic guitar looks like ;)
