My tip for the lamp stands - drill the hole on both ends and run the cables inside the tubes. I am sure they are hollow. Just remember to smooth out the edges of those new holes with a round file. Then you get rid of all the zip-ties and cables that rather stick out. Thank you for the video! Great tips on maintenance!

One of the most awaited videos of yours George! Excellent explanation given at each and every step of maintainence done on the Aquascaper 1200! I too own a 75g tank.. barely 6 months old.. ur this very aquascape had motivated me to venture into the art of aquascaping.. Thank u.. so far it was a budget aquascape.. will be introducing co2 and fertilizers by the week end.. Thank u once again for introducing me into such a lovely hobby.. and my suggestion for the 2ft tank challenge would be an idea similar to the African aquascape that ur had created at AquaDepot London I suppose.. the one close to that massive ivagumi scape. #keeponscaping

Well rescued George, I knew you would have it back on its feet in no time ;) Little tip if you haven't got one already, get yourself a Dennerle nano gravel cleaner (Mulmsauger) I bought one about a month or so ago and really pleased with it. They are only designed for 300mm deep tanks but work a charm when you've lowered your water level a bit. You can adjust the flow on it so it just sucks up the detritus on the sand/gravel then dumps the clean substrate back into the tank, excellent for getting into nooks and crannys and more importantly it has a mesh filter on it so doesn't suck up your shrimp ;) I'm sure the peeps at Dennerle will sort you one out.

Hi George - this is an awesome tank. I always love it. As far as the new tank, I believe nature aquariums are generally best for grabbing the interest of beginners. But, your nature setups made me really interested in trying my hand at a freshwater scape. I absolutely love it! Thanks!

Very Nice Tank. I like the - low mantenance idea for tanks, because lot of people struggle with the nature aquariums, that need lots of attention and work. I think, a tank wich is scaped - to have a good looking tank in the living room, but plantend with easy plants an maybe no co2 injection - if possible, means not the sometimes ugly fish tank of the past, would fit to nearly every fishkeeper. Nice to watch, easy to keep. Greetings from Germany.

Awesome video... thanks for all the in depth reali life maintenance info. I love that you show that in the real world, tanks sometimes get dirty. It's OKAY if our tanks don't always look like award winning material 24/7, but TLC can always bring them back. Also wanted to share my secret cleaning sponge since dennerle can be hard to get here in the states. Magic Eraser sponges work miracles. They're actually an inert Melamine foam that's totally tank (even reef tank) safe. It feels soft, but is super abrasive and removes tough algae and water stains. They need to be replaced somewhat often, but they're fairly cheap. Thanks again for all your awesome content! PS... love my #whitecolander

George Farmer but now I noticed that my acrylic aquarium (juwell rio 240) is all scratched up .
@GeorgeFarmerStudios6 жыл бұрын
You have an acrylic Juwel Rio 240? I thought they were all glass. You have to be very careful when touching the glass/acrylic, especially near the substrate so you don’t trap any grains against the glass/acrylic. I explain this in this video.
@root66836 жыл бұрын
George Farmer i know i scratched it also some years ago, there are big scratches 10-15 inch long. I wondered why my aquarium has different refraction, maybe a little bit yellow tint, it looked different than other aquariums, then i found out it is indeed acrylic. Is it better to have acrylic tank ? It does not break so easy probably, also it is lighter than glass. Edit : maybe it is not acrylic, I am not sure now.
@sidwellavfc6 жыл бұрын
Nothing better then a freshly maintained aquascape! I have to say I do think this is one of your best and it will be a sad day when you break it down. Iwagumi with lots of height? Or a scape with wood emerging from the aquarium surface would possibly be something unconventional to a beginner for the 2 ft scape. I can also vouch for the cleanator, great product!

Just a couple of tips for cleaning the filter & piping: If your lily pipes are stuck in the rubber tubing when pulling, gently push the pipes into the tubing. This should release the glass and allows for removal. If that doesn't work, soaking in hot water will cause the rubber hosing to expand. The glass should release. Never push or pull on the bends of the glass piping. If you have to clean the filter media: before placing the outlet back into your tank, put the outlet into your waste bucket and turn it on. This will "burp" the filter and any loose waste that was missed can be ejected into the bucket and not your tank. Learned these as I have both sliced my finger open breaking a glass inlet and contaminating my aquarium requiring another immediate water change :(

Very inspiring video and reminds me that my tank needs a good clean up too. My floating plants grow absolutely wild and drive me mad as I need to thin them out every week or so and trim the roots, a right pain it is. Algae is not so much of an issue at the moment however, it's in some annoying and hard to reach places as I made the mistake of putting my hardscape quite close to the glass. I also need to replace my Amazon sword as it is dying off because I assumed that my Ada substrate would be enough but I really should be invested in some root tabs. I've also got some weird stringy black algae on my filter outlet that I need to clean off. Other than that all of my chili rasboras are extremely happy and as far as I can tell all 12 are still alive and thriving. Truly a spectacular little fish with a huge amount of confidence for their size, I read that they are mid level feeders, however, most of mine always come to the surface when I feed or walk past them. Thanks for the excellent quality content George, I eagerly await an update on your nano cube tank and the choices you made for its inhabitants.

Whats amazing is the credit card will take off the hardest scale algae that forms on Acrylic glass. Does it with no scratching. I mean that super stubborn algae you get with sunlight beating on the Aquarium before the plants you put in get going in a large aquarium. I would guess in saltwater tanks,it could remove most corraline algae where not wanted. The C cards? I found the better ones (thicker!) are better then cheap cards that bend.

This exactly reminds me why i dont have aquariums indoors but outdoor ponds and tanks, in my climate thats possible, thanks heaven. All these gadgets to try and mimic the sunshine, nature and everything to maintain before you even plant a single thing. Little tip if your tank/aquarium is a low maintenance, filterless, natural happening never remove 75% of the water and all the mulm in a water change, in fact its best just to top it up. I once removed all the bacteria (mulm) and just a quarter of the water in one of my concrete "tanks" and instantly got a system failure. The water turned cloudy and all the fish and plants died, complete melt down. This happened even though my water comes from a natural pristine clean mountain stream. The bio load from the fish was just too high. I have tanks that are sparkling clear for years and years and years with about two to three inches of mulm on the bottom. They are partially covered with shade covers and between the rain and me topping up is all the maintenance i ever do aside from dropping in so calcium carbonate after very heavy rain. The sides are covered in a thick soft short furry algae. Obviously all my fish are top view species and so is my aquascaping. With filters holding most of the bacteria in aquariums with filters I guess it's safer, just never wash your filters or you're doomed lol. To start a tank all i do is take mulm from an old one, about a quarter syphoned into a bucket, fill the the tank up with stream water and this added mulm let it settle for the night and it's good to go next morning.

Hi George, I'm a big fan from Brazil, and to be honest I'm a beginner in the aquascaping community. Right now I'm developing/creating my first aquascaping (plants and fish). I have a programming/developer background, since I study engineering, during this aquascaping project came to my mind the idea of create a calculator where a new or old users can select an aquarium (dimensions), a plant(s) and the amount of plant(s), that he(she), wants to insert in the aquarium with each fish he select from a menu and at the and se the statistics about the tank. The final result would be something like a table with the estimate value of each commun chemical in a Aquarium. The ideia looks feasible? I started a quick research but I couldn't find any good database for plants or fishes and their proprieties. The whole ideia is to share a free tool to the community. What do you think? Would you be able to help me giving a direction to start? Thank you for your time and all the good videos that you share with all of us =D

Indian River stream biotope! Hoping to do one myself, but have no idea how best to start it!

I see or here a lot of centimeters, liters and such. I have to break it down to ft, inches and gallons. I live in Minnesota wish we were all on the same system of measurement standard vs metric. I can figure it out, just wish I new it off the top of my head. Love the tanks.
