GFI Specular Tempus Demo (All Reverb Algorithms)

Once again, GFI has packed an incredible amount of sounds into a very compact an unassuming enclosure. This pedal contains the sounds from the Specular Reverb and Clockwork Delay V3 plus additional algorithms. Specular Tempus also adds MIDI, an effects loop, Aux in and out, SpecLab software editing and a screen to easier keep track of changes, presets, etc.
Showing all this pedal has to offer in one video would have been feature length film, so I decided to break it up and display the reverb algorithms alone in this segment.

Awesome demonstration! ST is my only reverb pedal right now (I have Timeline for delays), and it covers everything I need, TL combined with ST is just delicious!

Never thought I’d come across a video of another guitarist who wears an analogue wristwatch on their right wrist which leads to the ticking coming through the pickups on the guitar they’re playing…but here we are! 🙌🏼 😎 I also appreciate how useful this vid is, this has helped bump the Tempus back to the top of my revolving list of what I want my main reverb to be.

Best on-the-ground review!! The slow-attack stuff is particularly intriguing to me. I can really see how the knobs interact in your vid. Do you find you need EQ to tame brightness a bit on this unit? If so, how do you get it? I’m trying to figure out if I need another pedal for that purpose, & I’d like to avoid the HX Somp, mostly it provides things I don’t need (I’m an amplified fiddler), & EQ is the biggest absence.

Thank you! I would go with a filter pedal with a low pass filter personally. Spaceman Artemis is a great all around dedicated Filter pedal and is what I use, but there are many options.

A and B are not two independent channels but rather are used to switch presets, control auto-swell, tap tempo, etc.

I just bought the specular tempus. You have mentioned taming the high ends, esp on pitch-shifted patches, with a Chase Bliss Condor. However those are discontinued, and are fetching higher prices than new. Do you have an alternate recommendation for taming hi frequencies? I’m an amplified fiddler, so I suspect I’ll need one. Thx!

Hey there. You must be thinking of someone else as I have never owned a Condor. You should be able to get by with an EQ pedal or any filter pedal with a low pass filter. I would typically use the Spaceman Artemis or Meris Enzo for this kind of thing.

Lol at using a CBA pedal to tame high end. You could run a simple graphic EQ in the FX loop or after the ST to tame high end (GE7, mooer eq etc). I have an EQD Tone Job that I put at the end of my chain as a total level control and the EQ on that is great.

@@arrighioce This is a good tip, and interesting. I actually am waiting for a boss EQ 200 in the mail! I bought it for other reasons: I am replacing a Fishman aura spectrum with a Grace design Bix. The main thing that the Bix lacks from it’s more expensive (and less paddleboard-friendly) siblings is extensive EQ. I’ve heard that several people solve this with a downstream EQ pedal. Now I can use that EQ to shape the reverb as well. EQ is amazing!

Is it possible to use the infinity as some sort of freeze (ehx) .. with one chord it is possible but what if you want to change the chord a few times.

@@rikfennis9603 I don't think so. I also like the sound of this freeze better. It does take a second or two to capture though. I am not sure if you can change how fast the capture is in the deep setting with a computer.

Would you say the spring can do a really solid surf style drip?

I wouldn't say full on surf, but perhaps close enough? At higher settings you get hits of a drip but they take some coaxing out with playing technique. 13:55 is about as drippy as I could get it.

@@evancrawford8046 Nice! For what it's worth, I personally don't like or use the HX Stomp reverbs at all. ZOIA has amazing reverbs, and like you said offers all of the other things it does as well. I'd also recommend an H9. I've been getting my favorite reverb sounds ever out of that lately.

There are some modes in both the delay and reverb categories that are combinations of the two effects.

Having H9 Max, do you find ST worth its algorytms to replace H9?

I love all of the reverbs, but if I had to pick one it would be H9. If H9 didn't also offer so much more than its reverbs then my pick might be a Ventris.

why is it that on most of these algos even when the BLEND is maxed out, the dry signal is still super loud? huge disappointment

Good question. I could be wrong, but I feel like certain pedals or algorithms have a very fast response which seem to retain those playing transients. In other words, they are full mix but that sound is part of the full mix. There may also be some that just don't ever go 100% though. I'm with you, generally when I max out a mix I typically want a perfectly soft pad sound. Fortunately there are a lot of good options to get that.

Ah yes I remember now, this pedal has a kill-dry function so that has to be switched on to get full wet. Not my favorite way to go. I prefer that when I hit 10 on the dial to have 0% dry signal.
