That's going to be tricky, since the HOC pierces the shields. The one he's using is the very first one you get, I'm not sure how quickly you can build it now, that's all been revamped a couple of years ago so it's faster for ppl to catch up, but you don't need a theater or anything to get the essential ones.

Getting BGM good enough to beat normal mode is simply bringing BGM. Even with minimal levels, all you need is for her to lower Force Shields enough to allow killing the boss in time. Further improvements to HOCs includes crafting (or less recommended, doing combat sims) for SCRs to level up your HOC, doing your weeklies and just upgrading the rarity of the HOC.
