Just answering your question before I even finish the video, but GFriend has always been a 6 member group! The girls have been together since 2015, so no member changes in the five years since they debuted, but they have matured a lot as a group for sure though

Gfriend has had 6 members since their debut. So no, no members are missing. And Gfriend is still under Source Music, it's just that Source Music is a subsidiary of Big Hit since 2019. As for the meaning\theory for the music video, all gfriend music videos have an over-arching storyline connecting them. The videos "A Tale of the Glass Bead : Previous Story", which was released before their Crossroads comeback, and "A Tale of the Glass Bead : Butterfly Effect", which was released before their Apple comeback gives more insight to the storyline. The apple in this music video sybolises the temptation of choosing perhaps the "wrong" choice. The blue butterfly has been featured in many of Gfriend's past music videos as well, perhaps sybolising change or the butterfly effect of choosing a particular choice over the other. Their debut song is called "Glass Bead" and it probably represents them as well. I'm not the best with theories but this is what I've inferred thus far. There are probably others who can explain this better but I hoped this helped a bit. ^^

nice reaction! glass bead (which is also the title of their debut track) and butterflies are recurring symbols in their music videos and are theorized to be metaphors for identity and change respectively. the apple itself is a metaphor for temptation and while this video is the latest chapter in the storyline they were going for since they were merged to bighit, the song itself could be meta-interpreted as gfriend themselves shedding their innocent concept and embracing their maturity. gfriend's entire discography is built around symbolisms with no concrete narrative which might be alienating to new and casual listeners but it's worth checking out their entire catalogue and interpreting them yourself

also, nice catch when you commented on them not having full creative control over their works in the past, for this comeback though the members are actively involved in the songwriting for the album and this song specifically. if you haven't seen it yet, be sure to check out the preceding mv "crossroads" as well which is their first cb under bighit, both songs are tied lyrically and narratively but crossroads is much more cinematic and the music is more inclined to gfriend's signature orchestral sound

It's just so many groups aren't able to show themselves fully due to the companies want for money and success so a lot of groups lack that control ;-;

4:45 their debut track is called Glass Bead, and in the song they compare themselves to glass beads saying they may look fragile, but they won’t break easily. so I think it’s also like a call back to that.

Also you should watch A Tale of the Glass Bead: Previous Story, and A tale of the Glass Bead: Butterfly Effect. It kinda explains the theories in their music videos

Introducing "GFRIEND" 0. GFRIEND won the Rookie of the Year award in 2015. 1. 69 awards in music programs (3rd ranked in 3rd generation girl group) 2. Double 100 million streamings (first girl group in whole k-pop history) 3. The only team in the company (small company with only a few employees) 4. Starts with worst conditions as senior GLAM (The only group that started from minus and climbed to the top, not from zero) 5. Korea's download chart No. 1 in 2016 and No. 2 in streaming (ROUGH) 6. A group with little difference in quality between the title track and the non-title track. 7. Because the lyrics are beautiful, the lyrics are included in the regular education music textbook. 8. Group dance is known without saying anything, and their teamwork can be seen as being between siblings. 9. All six members are the youngest at home.(so cute image) * Music characteristics: Group that takes different lines in K-pop, which pursues live sound of string instruments such as pianos, guitars and drums. * It's just things foreigners don't know. Promotion is the key to this market, but they belong to a small company, so they lack marketing. EX)McDonalds vs. good quality local food market . (But now they are in Big Hit. You also may have known GFriend because of Big Hit. 😂) *Conclusion: There has never been a girl group like this in the history of girl groups. GFriend doesn't do much EDM style music that K-pop-loving overseas fans think. If you want something different from EDM, listen to GFRIEND's music. They pursue "listening based MUSIC" rather than "seeing". If you listen to GFRIEND's B-SIDE music, you will understand.❤️❤️ *Did you also know that the girl group that marked the beginning of the 3rd generation of girl groups is GFRIEND?

actually gfriend has a story from the very beginning. In short, the videos glass bead / me gusas tu / rough / navillera describe their youth and the relationship between them. In the Love Whisper video, girls take magic powers from a lake in a village and curse their friendship. Even though the Fingertip video is entirely based on mythology, let me say it because it fits the story. SinB and Eunha are twin sisters. When Eunha and Yerin are close to each other, Yerin meets SinB and they start to have love in secretly. In the TFTMN / Summer Rain video, the breakups they have experienced after what happened are the subject. The girls seem to have two lives, although the story is one. TFTMN also seem to find the missing member (Eunha) but this time Eunha notices something. (If you look at the lyrics of the song Love Whisper as if a siren is speaking) The crossroads music video is about their crossroads somehow. If you watch the music video (and take a reaction ehehe) you will know what I mean. Apple video is a transformation video as you said. There is a force, nectar, voice that attracts them, and the girls cannot resist it and turn into witches.(Cutting and burning hair turns into magic when certain words and dances combine.) If you look at memoria, the girls 'japanese' music video, you can understand the girls' powers. (I can explain if you want) So, that's the story. (u should watch their storyline videos bruh) We, as buddy, think that yuju is siren, sowon is the lead witch, and sinb is the one who imprisons yerin in the maze in the apple video. also It was sowon who, when looked behind the scenes, pulled the girls into the building, drink nectar and get them drunk. omfg I wrote too much I hope you readFSDFHNASDIL

Oop I’m late but I’m here to help :) BigHit I wouldn’t say completely “changed” Gfriend, they had Crossroads as their first comeback in BigHit and that is their usual style. Plus their side tracks have remained to keep their Gfriend touch in them while slightly changing things up! But Apple is definitely very different. Source Music is still in charge of the girls in managing them but like BigHit is like the boss over Source Music if that makes sense. It’s basically the same situation with Pledis (with Seventeen and Nu’est). BigHit is basically opening opportunities for more content, more budget for MV’s etc. Gfriend were doing perfectly fine beforehand though, BigHit would have no need to acquire a group that they didn’t think would bring in enough profit. Plus the ceos of both of the companies have been good friends for many years even before BTS and Gfriend debuted, one of the members (SinB) was previously a trainee at BigHit for around 5 years I believe etc And I would like to confirm the positions here since someone said there is rappers when officially they have never been stated, Gfriend have had no need for rappers since they don’t focus on it as you may have seen from a lot of their title tracks specifically. Sowon trained as a rapper before Source Music but changed to vocals when entering Source Music/ joining the lineup to debut with Gfriend. As well as the visual position, another fan made position that was never confirmed by the company either :) Sowon- leader, 6th vocal Yerin- lead dancer, 4th vocal, center Eunha- lead vocal Yuju- main vocal SinB- main dancer, 3rd vocal, center Umji- maknae, 5th vocal The glass bead part in the song I guess we could reference to their debut song “Glass Bead” In the chorus of that song it was them comparing themselves to “clear glass beads that won’t break so easily” Now in Apple they are becoming darker This is actually linked in their storyline, I guess to help you with the storyline a bit I would suggest watching their tale videos A Tale Of The Glass Bead: Previous Story - this goes into the story behind their music videos before Crossroads A Tale Of The Glass Bead: Butterfly Effect - this links into the new branching storyline! Spoiler if you haven’t watched them before reading this lmao😭 But basically, the glass beads kind of represent themselves (?). They got powers from the lake in Love Whisper in what they called the “Blue Butterfly Village” (we don’t know the powers officially, some believe Eunha’s is time travelling though as that’s a key part of their story) But anyways blue butterflies are also present in a lot of their MV’s as well which also hold a meaning! The butterflies hold the powers, of each of the girls. Each time Eunha (it may be all of the girls as well we aren’t sure. It was her little character shown in where I found this but then another girls character showed up afterwards perhaps told the same thing) uses a butterfly it will darken her glass bead. If she uses the final butterfly something greater than what she can imagine will happen 5:35 is showing the “red glass bead” Same at 7:49 where SinB is giving Eunha it👀 If you’re curious about where I got this from, well from this recent album and their last one they’ve put these little mini books in their albums called Märchen which means fairytale in German. This helps a lot for their storyline, if you want to read it yourself to get a hold of it properly cause I couldn’t explain it well lmaoo, they’re short don’t worry. Märchen 1- twitter.com/odetteswan_/status/1224685789134540800?s=21 Märchen 2- twitter.com/odetteswan_/status/1283732753498796033?s=21 But in terms of theory videos I would suggest these for Apple- Teaser/ concept breakdown- m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4CUf5djitx8apY Apple (the butterfly effect us included in this)- m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHOlqXmZqcxjo7s Apple (a different one)- m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6ncfICboNSdm7c And a previous story theory video- m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH6ymaiNeq2srq8 Crossroads theory- m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpeZmYWsqZaMn6s That’s if you are interested in the storyline 🥺 And I don’t know if you’ve seen all of their Korean MV’s but here’s the list for you anyways! Glass Bead (2015) Me Gustas Tu (2015) Rough (2016) Navillera (2016) Fingertip (2017) Love Whisper (2017) Summer Rain (2017) Time for the moon night (2018) Sunny summer (2018) Sunrise (2019) Fever (2019) Crossroads (2020) Apple (2020) The girls have been able to showcase a different side of themselves which I believe was probably one of the main aims of this comeback, I know that they’ve said many times how they want to show many sides to themselves and I think this was perfect! They all did amazing and I’m so thankful to all the work put into this era! This is the members work in the tracks- Yuju worked on composition on Apple (I think perhaps lyrics too) Eunha wrote lyrics for Apple (specifically her bridge part) Tarot Cards- Yuju, Eunha and Umji wrote lyrics Eye of the storm- Yuju and Umji wrote lyrics Eye of the storm is based on Yuju’s diary entries from 3-4 years ago Stairs in the north is based on SinB’s feelings as an idol, Gfriend’s past, present and future and the struggles she personally went through Also here’s the album playlist with accurate lyric videos (in lyrics+ showing who is singing)- kzbin.info/aero/PLXD3QfbSgX5_EvYIHLYn9Ls-lPp_tVAeU&feature=share
