Hey don't be afraid to try a compound radius fretboard on your next scratch build, it just takes a little more time and a slightly different process to get those frets level.

I recently purchased a guitar from Fender USAwhich sports a 10-14 inch compound radius neck profile. Got some really bad buzzing and located some high spots with the fret rocker. I’m researching on how to remedy this situation. There is a guy “Guitar MD” on KZbin who has some kinda crazy mathematical formula and complicated process which seems a bit much. I think I’m gonna use your methods instead! Thanks

I use sharpies when sharpening knives on a whetstone, same idea! Great video!

I really needed this video and im glad i found it! Thumbs up! Just have a question if you dont mind. Why is it necessary to sand every fret again if you've already sanded and checked all of them with your fret rocker a couple of times? I didnt quite understand the reason for this ...

Thanks! Basically I was just using a finer grit to make it easier to polish after crowning.

I've been thinking about doing a compound radius for my next build, using the CNC to carve the actual radius. Using the radius sanding block was possibly my least favourite process on the entire build! So either way I'll do the radius on the CNC. This is a great explanation of the process that will be really useful if I do decide to go with a compound radius. Did you do anything special when finish sanding the fretboard?

Thanks for watching! I cut my boards on a cnc as well so they're very precise and that really helps when comes to finishing the frets. As for finish sanding the fretboard I just use a folded piece of 400 grit and a common dish sponge always running the entire length. I just try to make sure not to dig any holes 😄
