Well I never Worked on one of these 2019 models before but it was fun. If anyone else is having a similar issue or needs some guidance on doing a recovery image I would be happy to help. First what version shield TV do you have because the way you get into recovery mode is different for each one. nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4052/~/factory-reset-shield-tv-when-you-are-unable-to-access-android-settings Second the usb cables are not all equal I had to use three different micro usb cables for my controller before one worked. Had a short on the adapter, got a replacement, got the original USB cable and controller, tried both ports and followed your instructions. My device doesn't even power on, just heats up around the power plug :( Can you help me recover this unit?

Would the method for rooting the Shield TV be a similar process? I have the 2017 16gb model that I use as a Plex Media server, it's been great but I recently learned about plugins for PMS and I tried installing them normally in the PMS main directory under Plug Ins folder, specifically using Subzero, HAMA, and Absolute Series Scanner. When using these after a little while my PMS will stop working completely, and require me to completely reset it and seeing new libraries and rescan all my media again. Now that I have removed the plugins it doesn't do this anymore. However I really want to use these plugins since I use pms specifically for a lot of Anime. Reading about Subzero and the other plugins they don't have any documentation on shield, however for Linux, OSX and other Unix type systems they require ownership changes to the files, which I cannot do without Root access on Android. If you could post a tutorial on how to root the 2017 16gb model, I would really appreciate it. Btw I am running the latest Android 11 update, Nvidia shield experience 9.0.1 hotfix 2

Thanks for the video, got a dos (cmd) tip for you. Just navigate to the folder you wish to be in (working directory), then type cmd in the address bar and press enter, saves a bunch of dos typing, again, thanks for the video

For instance, the ADB and fastboot tool you linked now states that it is out of date on the xda developer page. I also found a more up to date XDA page containing the stock firmware - sure yours would have worked fine tho

Any advice on how to fix an Nvidia Pro 500 GB with a dead hard drive? I bought a new one but cloning the hard drive did not work. Both the new and old hard drive are stuck on the "Android" screen.

Hi! I did the rollback to 8.2.3. In the wifi connection selection option, no connections are found. Of course I checked with laptop, phone and there are about 25db wifi connections (10th floor apartment building) Then I plugged in wired internet instead, restarted shield, and now for 10 minutes it just shows the nvidia logo... 1x I finally got it to the point where I got the android logo, then to pair the remote, and there it just stops, the remote flashes, but the whole process doesn't go from there. What do I do? Thx!

Too technical for me but I think I should ask you a question. Before doing a factory reset I need to ask if you know what can cause my Nvidia to tell me that the memory is low even if I have a 256gb drive formatted as internal and all apps are deleted except Netflix, Plex, Smart KZbin TV and downloader. Is there a way to fix this without resetting the Nvidia 2019 pro. I see that while resetting the USB drives are no affected. If I do the reset should I re-format the USB?

Thanks for the video, my shield (2017) only has image on safe mode, but it wont boot in regular mode, I tried to reflash using this video, but for some reason while it is in fastboot I connect it to the pc and It doesn't show up on device manager, tried it in 2 pcs and with different cables (the cables works with my galaxy phone tho). With the 2015 I did an SSD swap 15 months or so ago...now it's in an infinite boot loop from the Nvidia logo...you say a reclone of the drive will work?...what cloning tool did you use out of curiosity?

Boot loop means something got corrupted, you could try to do a restore from the boot menu like it did on this 2019 if you can get there. as long as it's still responding to inputs' there is hope.

I would really try to clone that hard drive that died if you can. Because that hard drive contains your wine dive keys. In lieu of being able to clone that drive I do have a video up with an image file for download if you want to try that. It needs to be written with a tool called HDD raw copy tool. There are some other more advanced methods to try and recover your system but try those first and see if they work

having trouble with my network plug on the unit. says it connected but doesn't get have actual internet connection . have only wifi connection. but in order to get wifi connection option I have to disconnect ethernet connection then reboot to find wifi connection option. never messed with ethernet port , just stopped working one day. Thanks for this video. I have a 2017 500gb model and the HDD died on it. Is there away to put the image on a brand new SSD or HDD and get this to work? I cant get it into fastboot mode because the original HDD died. I downloaded the driver for the ADB bootload interface and when I run Powershell/CMD the devices dosent show up when I input the abd devices command. Any info you have on this would be much appreciated 🥲

Because on the units that have HDD's Fastboot Mode is on the hdd. You can't enter something that doesn't exist. I have little to no success reviving a unit after the drive has died. Which is why I usually strongly recommend to people to make a clone of the drive before it dies. The only thing you can do at this point is try to find a Image (Raw Copy) of a working drive and try to get it working that way. Again though I have had limited success using this method as well. The 2019 model that this video is for, does not have a hdd. Which is why you can still enter the fastboot even when the system is having issues.

@@GGMentor found a guy on reddit who had a backup image of his HDD and am using the Raw Copy tool to transfer the image to a new SSD at the moment, taking a little over 2hrs to complete. Hopefully this will get me in and then I can run the ADB commands to flash it to new and do a backup incase my new SSD dies on me.

I have a 2017 pro edition & woke up to it stuck on the fast boot/boatloader screen. Ive tried all the options on the screen. None of them work except power off. I unplugged the power supply a few times. It still reverts back to that same screen after some time an numerous beeps.Im not all that tech savy, do you have any suggestions? Ive contacted Nvidia they claim to have no clue of this occurring with anybody else etc & its also out of warranty so no replacement per the "phone rep suprivisor"..

if you still have access to the boot loader you can try a recovery image like I did in this video. But since you have a different model it has to be a different image.

Somehow mine just stopped turning on at all (no light)... i had amazon replace it and the new unit also has no light turn on when plugged in. I think i have the worst luck ever. Did they replace the power brick when they replaced the unit? Because I really doubt you would have two failed units in a row with the same issue. Try a new power brick

Tried both in multiple rooms of the house, with different displays and can't get them to give a green light. Maybe a bad batch of power cables or something. (replacement was ordered within a week)

Nor quite sure what you mean, could you elaborate? Is it entering the fastboot menu at all? What model is this unit? Have you tried flashing the developer images that are free to download from.nvidia?

Sorry man been really busy, Sounds like a driver error or connection error. Reinstall the driver just to be safe, and also try a couple different cords and usb ports. Some USB ports won't do the transfers properly. Also Some USB cords don't have all the wires for Data Transfers. Really Cheap USB Cords will only have wires for charging for instance.

Hi, I NVidia Shield Pro 500gb model and it didn't come with a controller or remote, so I have had to use my TV remote and a Bluetooth mouse to work it, It was working fine until I forgot the remote and had to unplug the power a few times, which caused it to "lock up" and now I am getting the endless screen of the bouncing ball android logo. Without a controller how can I fix this? Can I use a computer keyboard or it there a way to plug it into my pc to get the locked Nvidia Shield to a reset or boot screen?

Sometimes the update can fail, which is very unfortunate. However if this happened call support explain to them that the system stopped working after the update. Sometimes this will create a special situation where you can get a new one.

I had a similar issue (wifi & bluetooth no longer connects, found mac and bluetooth address unavailable) and flashed recovery image 8.1.0 (flashing 9.0.0, the latest recovery image asks me to pair remote and not allow usb keyboard to get through initial setup) and completed the setup with keyboard. Do you know how to recover the lost MAC and Bluetooth address?

I will be making one but the steps are very similar. Main changes are that the 2015 actually has a micro usb port for fast boot. And of course you have to download the 2015 recovery

The 2019 pro can also be reset with a usb keyboard although results may vary between keyboard models. The instructions for a keyboard reset are in the description.

It didn't work for me 😪 I can't get out of the restricted profile that I made for my brother. It says my pin is wrong. Even though it is the pin, I always use it. What can I do now? Is there anyhow I can use my main profile?
