Amen Pastors. Thank you. Being in a Reformed church now; there is teaching about faith and repentance, and continuing to repent as requirement for salvation... It come from Lordship theology I think. One side note about Lordship: Lordship is presented as evidence of true salvation, not something we must do in ourselves; as in "making" Jesus our Lord. But people do begin to strive to "prove" they are in grace. I agree that it's faith alone. I think of when I first called on the Lord and was born again: God revealed to me I was a sinner under judgement, separated from God. When I called on Jesus in complete helplessness God saved. P Stevens taught this initial repentance was simply "a change of mind". When we turn and trust. I think of it as repentance and faith, in that way.

Are you saying that repentance is not necessary for justification? Paul's description of his message: Acts 20:21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance is not outward, it is inward (change of mind) in the same way that faith is inward. Faith will produce works but the works are not faith and repentance produces an outward turning from sin, but the outward turning from sin is not repentance. Repentance in justification is agreeing with God that we are sinners and faith is believing that Christ is the solution. Just because the word repentance is not there doesn't mean that the principle isn't there. Paul characterizes his whole message as a message of repentance. Repentance is not agreeing that I am going to stop my sinful habit, but repentance in justification, according to Paul, is turning form thinking there is anything I can do to save myself. The essence of the human problem is not the bad things we do, but the problem is that we think that we are good or there is something we can do to save ourselves. This is why the Apostles so often said that justification is not by works, this is how Paul preached repentance in Romans.
