He wants to be near Trina, and DAMN SURE does not want to be at Wyndemere with his blood sucking girlfriend. He cannot force his body to do as Trina asks, so he stays and endures her anger because to him being around her even at odds is a hell of a lot better than what he left behind in his father's castle.

Looking back on these scenes -- you can see his internal struggle clear as day. Even without the glimpse inside his head of him confessing (which he TOTALLY SHOULD HAVE DONE) that he's doing it for her b/c he loves her. He wants that connection with her back but he has to play a part (or thinks he has to, silly ass boy) so he's trying to cover his tracks. But he can never really hide how he feels about her, his body always gives him away, he can hardly breathe he's so desperate here.
