Turning Laura into an Esme apologist is such a poor writing choice. We know Laura is kind, but she’s tough when she needs to be. They should’ve had her be honest. Esme did that shit 🤷🏾‍♀️. Let her live with the knowledge of that. Also, we know Sam told her she committed those crimes, so I don’t know why she’s acting like she’s not sure.

When Nikolas first locked Esme up in the tower, she said that her unborn baby was her "ace in the hole", and from then on she called the baby Ace. I'm guessing that Esme either was telling the truth about not knowing where she got the name from but it was one of the few things she hadn't forgotten, or when she remembered the name Ace, she suddenly got her memory back and is now faking, or she never lost her memory in the first place and this whole ordeal is all an act (hey, if her father could pretend to be a vegetable for over a year, Esme could surely play a convincing amnesiac).
