Actually it was more that she knew how Sonny would react and kill who beat her up. Despite the abuse, she loved Keifer, and Ethan is Luke's son. Sonny and Luke have a long history and friendship, Sonny killing his kid was less likely.

COMPLETELY AGREED! Especially with Keiffer's dad having money, he'd get out and hunt her down. I grew up with a alcoholic abusive dad. He'd drink and yell. Throw stuff. Hit. That's how I know how she's feeling. It doesn't matter what she did, she did not deserve to be hit. No body does. She was scared. I had to grow up pleasing my dad so that he wouldn't hit me. He would yell and throw stuff for no reason. I felt so bad for her. I hate to say it, but I would have done the same thing because I had to tell lies about the marks my dad made on me. Being abused is scary and you will think that you will never get away and if you do, they'd find you. I got out on my own and didn't talk to my dad for years. We have a relationship now but anytime anyone yells or move their arms, i flinch. It doesn't matter if they are a person who won't hit, I had to withstand abuse for years. It isn't something you can erase easily but i feel like the show erased it too easily. But everyone is different.
