fun fact: in that scene where yang says "i start my semesters off with a yang", she was originally animated tying a cherry stem in her mouth to show to blake and then taking it out, you can see from the way her hand is moving like shes pulling something out of her mouth and holding it up. she was literally trying to show blake what a good kisser she is loll

Weiss’s DB came out after V6 and Blake’s after V8, which means they contain some spoilers up to those points in the story. It has been a while since I watched them, someone may know exactly what volume and episode you should be at before watching them. Also, it was mentioned by someone at the DB team that if they decided to redo the fight today, Tifa would win now due to new developments from the FFVII Remake and some other material. However, it still makes sense from everything presented that Yang would win this version.

They did not factor in one thing. Yang can use in theroy use Dust ammo for her weapons, and as we know dust can do some crazy stuff, i really think yang is the winner

The interesting thing is that this is a death battle that did not hold up through the test of time. Not the animation or anything, but the results and research. Even Ben (Wiz) noted that if they were to do this fight now, Tifa would win. This episode specifically is what got me to discover RWBY so I'm not complaining, but it's interesting to note that the results and evidence would be drastically different should it be done today.

Actually the creator of rwby made a series of videos called Dead Fantasy way way way back in the day that was a crossover between the fighting game Dead or Alive and Final fantasy. There's lot of final fantasy inspiration and references in rwby too. Like dust effectively being materia/magicite, and Weiss' time dilation glyph straight up being the spell haste from Final Fantasy 8

I always kind of felt like this one is one of the closer ones, and I could see it going either way. Tifa has a definite edge, but has to make sure any closing blow on Yang is final, as it's really dangerous to be in a close fight against that semblance.

I remember the first time I watched this. Did not expect the neck-snapping finale! By the way, you could have watched this after volume 2 as this came out before volume 3. As the show went on, the limitations of aura and semblances became more normalized (after volume 2, we never really see Yang reach the same levels of power as she did in volume 2). Also, since then, the Final Fantasy VII Remake (part 1) came out. I always found the "glass cannon" argument interesting, as I'm not entirely convinced that entirely applies to Tifa (but oh well, these videos are all for fun). I've always seen Weiss and Blake (especially Weiss) as glass cannons. It's a good thing they're exceptionally skilled. Fun fact, this death battle came out after Rooster Teeth bought Death Battle

Only mistake I noticed in Yang's information is that she was mainly trained by her father, Taiyang, not by Qrow. Though this isn't explicitly stated anywhere, it becomes obvious in volume 4 which came out after this was made.

heya ghost, I found you yesterday and have caught up on all your vids (bar this one but I am watching as typing this) Dont know if you have it planned, but you NEED to watch the character shorts for volume 4, they dont have any spoilers for Vol. 4 as a whole, but they add a lot to show you what team RNJR (ranger) has been up to, AND ITS A BADASS TRAILER, also showing the new (at the time) video engine Rooster Teeth switched to, as well as there being a LOT of detail into not just Ruby, but Crescent Rose, her scythe, seeing how it took place... 2-4 months after the end of Volume 3 EDIT: went back and rewatched the chibi vids you did and you did mention that you'll watch the short xD But still, watch all the details they put into it, so good

You’ll get not judgment from me about not knowing even popular games like FF7. I myself am very particular about what games and shows I’ll get into, and find it very difficult to get into anything that doesn’t have a female protagonist. I wasn’t always like this but the over-saturation of male protagonists wore me down over the years. That’s why the only Final Fantasy games I played were the XIII games. They’re weird and not really my favourite of games but I still consider Lightning to be one of my favourite characters. Anyway, as much I like seeing one of the RWBY girls beat the crap out of one of those popular icons, there are of course a few things to take into consideration. A few others say Tifa should win, especially after whatever new content came about from the FF7 Remake, but in all fairness we should remember that goes both ways. Tifa had her journey in FF7, she learned all of her best moves, claimed all of the best gear, fought whatever big bad with the hero, so she has already peaked as a fighter. On the other hand, Yang is still on her journey and still growing and learning. Heck, Yang in Volume 8 is far from the same fighter we see in Volume 2, and she is far from reaching her own peak. We don’t know who she’ll become by the end of the show, what skills she’s learned, what experience she has, or how her gear will change. And while at this time I do not think any member of Team RWBY will become Maidens (a discussion for another time maybe), it’s still a possibility I can’t entirely dismiss. All that said, Final Fantasy and RWBY are very different series. In FF there seems to be a lot more emphasis on characters’ individual strength, meanwhile RWBY has a lot more emphasis on teamwork and cooperation. Characters who are elevated above others and stand on their own tend to fall, hard, even if they are Maidens as Amber learned the hard way. As such, the RWBY girls always do their best work when they fight together as a team or even in pairs but often struggle more when fighting alone.

This battle was so rigged. So fun fact, Tifa is NOT a glass cannon, she survived a literal star exploding in her face. That's not an exaggeration that's a fact. She was transported to a different universe and tanked a star exploding in her face. She also could use other materia, and her strength is beyond what Yang could do, she doesn't deserve this victory. Especially since tifa can punch her so hard that she'd be knocked out before using her semblance.
