@@Maartentravelssorry about those comments, that's how Africans welcome u to the system these days, ...if u survive, u are family now. Its just that, for centuries,we have been destroyed by Europeans and Americans, to the world, with lies about the continent, with never ending sad and unfounded videos and pictures, so u can understand how we will be skeptical and negative. Thanks for hanging in there with us!

It is impolite to use your left hand at the table because of reasons mentioned, not just countries also some spiritual and religious practices. It used for the toilet. One must just adjust when we are in other people’s countries. We must have regard for the culture.
@Maartentravels Жыл бұрын
Yes of course. I had read about it, so I asked my friend 😊
@rainbow3649 Жыл бұрын
Stop lecturing him, he did nothing wrong! He was asking his frjnd,to be sure of what he "can or cannot do with his left hand" he wasn't challenging anything, so I don't know about the lecture. It wasn't necessary!

You can eat with any hand or hold your cutlery however you want. But because Africa is mainly communal, in Ghana when u sharing or eating food from same bowl with someone that's when you can't use your left hand. Other than that you can always

@@Maartentravels we wipe our backsides with the left hand, and because people's hygiene practices were questionable especially in the past, we don't accept greeting, eating, shaking hands etc with the left hand. Seen as disrespectful It's the same practice in many muslim majority countries.
@addy3134 Жыл бұрын
@@markntiri8251 lol, it's not because people's hygiene were questionable. Symbolically the right is seen as better than the left hand because of their roles or what they are used for. Hence, out of respect you use the right hands for things involving people or the elderly
@markntiri8251 Жыл бұрын
@@addy3134 it's hygiene. You know it's not only Ghana that practices this left hand 'disrespect'? From biblical times, many majority muslim countries all disregard the left hand. And you know why? Because it's the Ablution hand, the toilet hand. Google search the use of the left hand in Ghana's cultural etiquette or muslim's cultural etiquette and it'd mention HYGIENE as a reason for the 'no left'
@addy3134 Жыл бұрын
@@markntiri8251 I know many countries have that practice. I'm saying hygiene per say is not the reason for such culture or norm. It's more of the perceived respect people give to the right hand over the left because of what's they are used for. Such perception are the reason why from early till even now right hand is considered higher than left hand
