Hello Guys, today i explored Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana.
Cape Coast is a city, fishing port, and the capital of Cape Coast Metropolitan District and Central Region of Ghana. It is one of the country's most historic cities, a World Heritage Site, home to the Cape Coast Castle, with the Gulf of Guinea situated to its south. According to the 2010 census, Cape Coast had a settlement population of 169,894 people.[1] The language of the people of Cape Coast is Fante.
The older traditional names of the city are Oguaa and Kotokuraba (meaning "River of Crabs" or "Village of Crabs").[2] The Portuguese navigators João de Santarém and Pedro Escobar who sailed past Oguaa in 1471 designated the place Cabo Corso (meaning "short cape"), from which the name Cape Coast derives.[2] From the 16th century to the country's independence in 1957, the city changed hands between the British, the Portuguese, the Swedish, the Danish and the Dutch. It is home to 32 festivals and celebrations.[3]

We are inviting you to this year Fetu Afahye. Cape coast is widely known as the Athens of Africa. Cape coast celebrates one local festival( fetu )n an international festival( panefest ) Cape coast has raise a lot of heroes n some of them are Philip Qwaque, Mensah Sarbah, Casley Hayford, Jacob Wilson Say, J. B Brawn, Joseph W.S. de Graft-Johnson( first Ghanaian vise president). There are more The first Supreme Court in west Africa in cape cape. The oldest Anglican,Methodist,Roman Catholic n illuminate Church is situated in cape coast.

The Victoria Park was named after then queen of Britain after they sent her the land bill to Sign to indicate that, they are no more in control of ur land. So the sculpture at the middle of the park is queen Victoria.

The local name for cape coast is Oguaa, meaning market. In the Gold Coast era, cape coast was a market place. The symbol of cape coast is the crab. Our ancestors used the crab as our symbol based on how they defend themselves when they are in their habitat. It’s very difficult to catch a crab in it hole or whatever. Another rationale behind the crab as our symbol is that, when u put crabs in a bucket, they will force to come out because they are not in their habitat. When the crabs climb the bucket n sense danger ahead, they go back to pull others from getting into danger.
