Garden eggs are a variety of egg plant or aubagines. If peeled they all are same in taste. The skinny plantain you got with the Yam is called Apem in Twi language in Ghana. The yam goes very well with this garden eggs stew. If you dont like it too spicy always tell them when ordering the food. Because they always assume everyone has same taste like some Ghanaians do. Not everyone eats spicy hot food.

The hospitality you spoke about is 5rue and i agree with you. They try not to be too much approaching to the customers because most of the customers also find it pushy when the waiters/waitress is constantly attending to them and Ghana is very laid back country unlike in mist western countries where you are allocated a certain time or reservation for a period for your dinner and you are out for next customer. Here in Ghana they allow you for your relaxation and privacy and also please not make the looks of some people be a turn off because thats just how they look and you will be surprised to realise how nice they are when you approach them and they really are nice. They try not to be in your face all the time but they do give everyone great attention. Lots of diaspora always complain when they see them serving white people and complain they are giving them more attention than them. But its tgeir job to serve everyone and most at times they see you as one of them and not a guest in some places until you speak out. Most Africans welcome foreigners and any outsider to feel at home and if they don't know you are a diaspora especially being a black person they wouldn't know to give you the more attention any foreigner looks out for because we see you as a family and not just a customer. So you see sometimes the foreigners seem to get a bit more attention ti make them feel more welcome amd comfortable in the society or any place.

I love the fact that maybe I was seen as “not being a foreigner “ because I felt at home. There was something about being in Ghana that just felt right. I think everyone that we encountered was super kind and made us feel welcomed.
@nanabrimpong3485

@@mpresrn Ghanaians in general are very welcoming as most African countries are also and even when you meet them abroad they are alway very nice people. Its only in Ghana that you sit in the bus or shared taxi and people pick a conversation with you as if they know you from way back. Usually random conversion which could be politics, football (you call it soccer) and any trending stuff. Not because they want to hit on the person or anything but they just chat. Its only in Ghana that this happens and people are always ready to help if its needed. Sometimes you don't even ask and they offer to help. But the other lady you were with really seems to enjoy Ghana. When she wore that wrap cloth in the morning when you were fixing your hair, that was very African. It was very common and still is in some homes to to this in the mornings when the women are at home.

That's my favourite meal you are having right there. Please ask them to add some avocados next time because it really goes well with it. I meant the eggplant stew and the eggs and tomatoes stew (sometimes with corned beef). There is also spinach or kontomire (tarro or cocoyam leaves) stew also nice with the boiled yam and plantain. The palm wine has 2 types, the fresh non-fermented (usually for the ladies and children because its non alcoholic) and the fermented on (alcoholic but sweet in taste when drinking so must be careful because it can get you drunk completely.

@@mpresrn i noticed you didn't. Because its not something you are used to and also food was too spicy for you. I hope you get to try the spinach palava sauce there in America in a Ghanaian restaurant. But always remember to tell them not too spicy. Palm wine is also something you need to develop yhe taste to like it. Its like Marmite you either like it or dislike it because of the taste. But for a first time trying it best to have the unfermented palm wine.

About tje Uber and most places reason why they dont take the electronic payment is because the government pass a new tax law called e-levy to get a cut on all electronic payment and transactions. So if you pay the Uber electronically you pay e-levy and he also gets that same e-levy deducted from his end upon cashing out. So both parties lose on it that's why they prefer cash transactions.

I like the way you really enjoyed your trip without any negativity like most African Americans do and you were very honest with everything you said and i agree. Makola market is bigger and better Madina. The town you bought the bread is called Mankessim (literally means big town or big country). Its actually a 3 Akan word name Man (town or country pronounced as Maan), Kesse (means big) Mu (means in but the u is never said), hence the name Mankessem/ Mankessim.
@mpresrn

Omg. Thank you for this comment!! I really appreciate the knowledge about Mankessim. We loved the bread soooo much.
@nanabrimpong3485

@@mpresrn its a very old town that connected all the regions hence its importance. The bread is sold along the high way or major roads just as the Fante kenkey (a.k.a Wo enna se okyia wo (your (wo) auntie (enna) sends her (se) greetings (okyia "pronounced as ochia") to you (wo)). Its in the Ghanaian or mostly African culture to take something with you when visiting any one and you must have something on hand to give when you get there. Also its only in Ghana that you can do your shopping in traffic in the cities, don't know if you observed this. That shea butter you bought can also improve your daughters skin condition if she also uses the African made black soap in addition. But the shea can also so the job very well. After she uses her medicated soap to wash she can use the shea butter.

Well I’ll be honest…. The first time we visited, they didn’t have many of the things that were on the menu. It was disappointing. We gave them a second chance for my birthday dinner and the meal I ordered was inedible. The meat was like rubber. no lie. So I had to ask for something different. I wish I could say I loved it but I tried to make the best of to because I traveled so far and it was my birthday. I was honestly just grateful to be in Africa. ❤
