There is some story justification for it, funnily: Mareeta is a distant cousin of Shannan, and is suggested to have Major Od blood. It's possible she just has a natural affinity for the whole thing.

Honestly it would’ve been really easy to fix nyx’s revelation recruitement by having her travel to the rainbow sage to see if he has any knowledge on how to change her back. Maybe have her travel with Shura because she can’t scale the path alone while Shura didn’t know of the sages location with her being his guide. It’s a bit contrived but it makes more sense than the normal recruitment

@@CosmicToad5000 i was thinking of making nyx around level 15 or 17. also bump shura down to possibly promoted level 1. nyx joining underpowered is kind of stupid, but i also found it strange that shura becomes the highest leveled unit on your team on the same chapter he joins. you can nerf him and he will still be good (also, this lowers the level difference from 20 to 3)

I don’t think they mean farina, I think they mean the characters in gaiden chapters for FE11/shadow dragon. In case you didn’t know, you have to have many of your units killed to do the gaiden chapters. They were made to help out bad players that lost to many units but Ironically enough the characters aren’t even that good. Norne, Athena, Horace, Etzel, and Ymir have to have one or multiple units killed by the enemy to access the gaiden chapters where you can recruit them you must have 15 unit alive or LESS, the exception of Nagi who needs tiki to die + not having the falchion. You’ll get nagi and a weaker version of the falchion. (Though unlike everyone else you could have tiki die with the falchion and revive her later to have the weaker falchion, falchion, tiki, and nagi.) P.s by the time you get to Ymir you should have about 50 units meaning you would have to gotten 35 units killed. Just to recruit a single character. Luckily the new mystery of the emblem doesn’t have you kill basically everyone to recruit like 5 people.

With Beowulf the money you pay him (And I'm not making this up I saw it somewhere else) GOES INTO HIS INVENTORY so it might as well have been a gold transfer recruitment. & with Rennac you can have La'Arachel (I THINK I spelled that right) to quote Green Scorpion "PULL HIM BACK BY HIS EARS!" (Yeah there's a reason she doesn't hook up with him if they get an A Rank support. And to me THAT'S A GOOD THING! I say she's better off with someone she's got more in common with like Innes)

I’m not sure if by Compeeling you mean the circumstances or what you have to do to recruit them but either way FE6 Douglas works. I had absolutely no idea he was recrutiable for ages because it’s hard to not kill him, and really any “stubborn General realises the error of his ways” recruitment is just really cool.

In the case of Cath, its more of a "I'll talk to you when I see you again" done thrice. Coincidental, but at least Roy gave some points that made her think about joining each time they meet. Also, it doesn't really help that they meet a lot since Cath steals at high value locations like castles and estates, where Roy has to go and kill whatever bandit, traitor, dragon, or General that dwell in.

Meg was so excited to marry this one guy her dad liked that she trained her swordsmanship to professional-levels while wielding a tower shield and full steel-plate armor. Also, I always love when games reward players for thinking of stuff like "Hey, can this con man that looks like a prince actually do something useful with his throwaway gag?" and then your reward is the equivalent of Goku learning how to go super saiyan because he got an encouraging speech from Yamcha.

His sweets motivation was certainly stupid, however there was still some logic besides that. Not only did Gauis' previous employers just trick him into helping with a murder plot he wanted nothing to do with, but the first demand he made of Chrom was for gold, with his reaction to the sweets looking more like a spur-of-the-moment decision (albeit a reckless one). Don't get me wrong, it's still kinda dumb, it just pales in comparison to some of the other nonsensical recruitments (I seriously cannot believe that Cynthia, or anyone else, could be dumb enough to be fooled the way she was during her recruitment chapter!)

I’ve been looking in the comments, and I’ve noticed that almost no one has mentioned Virion. He just shows up in chapter one in the middle of what looks like the apocalypse, attempts to hit on Sully, fails miserably, and just joins the Shepherds on the spot in hopes of getting on Sully’s good side (I think?). He doesn’t even talk to Chrom or Robin at all!

I remember my first time recruiting Xavier, I used bolting to remove the freige armor knights and lured Xavier away from the other armor knights with an unequiped unit with enough build to not get captured, it took so long to have all the NPCs talk to the armor knights that Xavier broke his master axe.

I used Shannam! He's one of my favorite Thracia characters. I had him kill both Raydrik and Veld for me lmao, and he totally trivialized the Reinhardt/Saias river with a Flame Sword, and help from a few skill manuals and a pure water. Obviously anyone can become good in FE5 because of scrolls, but it was still really funny to see this fraud wipe the floor with these guys. Especially since, by the time I got to endgame, his stats were pretty similar to Shannan's bases in FE4.

Gonna be honest, I thought shannam was shannan in my first run (played with Japanese dialogue and English menus). I only learned today that he’s a separate character lmao. Also I tried to recruit Xavier on my first play through (semi blind, mainly reading the rough translation of the story) and my buddy said “unless you have an few hours, don’t fucking bother. You’ll just get frustrated”. Tried it on a boring afternoon and it took me 3 hours. He wasn’t even that good :l

@@Edgeperor Sure, except that's at base. Nobody can really say that threy have that much defense at base. Everything might cap at 20, but most scrolls and players focus the most on Strength/magic and speed. Defense is fairly inconsecuential for most of the game, but right after Xavier joins comes a chapter where high defense is almost a necessity if you want to get everything there is to get. This is where his wrath skill and excellent growths (the same as Olwen's) come into play. Wrath will make him much more of a beast on EP, specially with master or brave weapons. Giving him the brave axe for ch 19 will give him an accurate option for EP, whilst also making his speed problem seem less relevant, as he will be capable of one rounding anyways, getting tons of xp and being able to use his amazing growths, with maybe some defense oriented scrolls, will shape him into a potent combat unit. A shield ring will make him reach 19 defense as soon as he joins, which is just brutal. But anyways, this doesn't change the fact that he seems very mediocre once you recruit him, specially as a new player.

Nothing beats the Joshua recruitment in Sacred Stones. Flipping a coin to see if he helps Natasha or not (even if it's just flair text, it's still pretty bizarre). If Kaga had made FE8, I'm 100% sure that coin flip would be real (affected by RNG) and not just be flair text.

joshua regularly cheats when gambling. he has no personal stake in whether natasha flees from grado or not, and is not ruthless enough to kill a defenseless cleric just because someone told him to. my guess is: he was convinced to join her from the beginning and just put on a show as a gambler, rigging the coin toss in her favor. his recruitment line can very easily be read in a "fake surprised" tone

@@jaredparks4713 well all things considered you are probably not going to use many of the recruitable units, most of the recruitable units after the first few chapters are replacement scrubs, so unless you are playing ironman these units are quite useless 15 units is all you need i think

So it's more that the chapters with the replacement units require you to have lost a bunch of your other units, rather than the units themselves having that requirement.

@@rileystone3493 I would literally just have been taking a walk/riding with my wyvern as i find myself into a battlefield and then i realize "...Oh shit."- and then the lord would have to talk to me from the specific tile that helps keep me alive(probably an hiding spot in the lore i would be hiding in as i try to sneak my way out of the battle in case i'm an archer, and an hiding spot as i try to keep my wyvern calm if i'm a wyvern rider) and give me a weapon lmao

There is a very effective way to use Shannam: using Mareeta to defeat/capture him after he teaches her Astra, so she will gain some good exp (and the go for route A)

When i recruited Xavier after making every single npc talk to their respective family member xavier walked towards Leaf in the enemy phase to recruit himself but he did it just at 2 range of Gustave and since the boss moves the last Gustav attacked Xavier but he didnt kill him just to inmediatly afterwards activate his movement star and kill him in the second round, thank god i was using save states i cant imagine a japanese kid back in the 90's suffering for the same fate but unlike me having to reset the entire chapter

I think honorable mention goes to certain students in Crimson Flower from FE:TH. Felix, Ingrid, Sylvain, and Ignatz all enlist with Edelgard with no real reason to. Sylvain is particularly funny, since if you play F!Byleth, he only joined the Black Eagles because he thought their teacher was hot.

I followed a guide and abused save states to recruit Xavier. I think I had a couple of bulky unequipped blocking the entrance of that room and just... prayed they dodged. I managed to get all the greens to talk to the adjutants, but in the middle of all this, Xavier started moving towards them, and he just, murdered some of them after they turned green, right in front of their family members, oof. Luckily the adjutants being alive isn't a recruitment condition, so I didn't roll back. I think in the end only 3 of them survived by the time I managed to recruit Xavier... and then promptly threw him onto the bench (I wanted to recruit him for completion's sake, not actually to use him or anything)

Fun fact: Xavier's recruitment is pretty bad, but Project Exile and Lil' Manster did add some quality-of-life tweaks to make the whole thing less of a time-waster: - Names for the civilians and adjutants, so you can tell who is who from the info-bubble, instead of having to constantly open everyone's profiles. - Names with matching first letters, so there's a way to keep track of who needs to talk to who. - Two of the civilians with identical portraits now wear different shirts. That's right, in the original game, all those characters are "Leonster" and "Civilian", and two of the young ladies ("Mia" and "Daphnée" in PE/LM) are identical.

Also a fun note. (I know because this screwed my first attempt lol.) Because of stat variance, some of the generals can have capped con. This means that if you sleep them and they are turned green, you now can't pass them or rescue them.. This means that it is possible for some hallways to become literally impassible and for sleeping enemies to be trapped with no way for them to be talked to leading to a forced restart. Even with sleep sword strats the game can screw you over.

Honestly the Wolfgaurd recruitment process in fe12 is up there. Cuz the Wolfgaurd is around the map and Its very tough due to the the extremely tight conditions to pull it without people dying

What adds insult to the injury is that Xavier only have an E in Lance for some reasons. Why? Lance users for indoor missions are incredibly rare (in fact the only possible lance user you have is Dalsin as a General). It's not that much of a deal, but going through all this trouble, so late in the game, and he doesn't even have at least a C in every weapons? It's a pretty big troll move.

3H has a really open recruitment system and I know they want to make it so anyone can join Byleth, but Ashe rejoining you when you are especially on the church route is kinda dumb. These are the people who ordered his adoptive father's death. Recruiting him in Crimson Flower has him saying that he has to get to the bottom of why Lenato betrayed the church. But he joins the church in Silver Snow just because Byleth has big main character energy.

I’m surprised there haven’t mentioned shinon (POR), You have to talk to him with Rolf followed by defeating him with Ike. If I didn’t search it up I probably would of thought he just had to die (this would of definitely been the case if I had played FE8 because of orson.) I’m not sure if this counts but Jill and shiharam was certainly very interesting. If he talks to her he manages to “recruit” Jill back into daein forcing Ike’s group to kill them both. (Unless Mist has an A support) Elice in new/mystery of the emblem also makes no sense for me. I don’t mind it but the fact that Marth can’t recruit his own sister despite Minerva being able to recruit Maria just makes no sense.
