FOR THOSE WHO DID NOT UNDERSTAND: - Grab any skill gem you wish to improve (preferably not the highest level you have so you don't risk losing it) - Use a Lesser Jeweler's Orb on it so it goes from 2 slots to 3 slots - Use a Vaal Orb on it so it MAY go from 3 slots to 4 slots (If it didn't, you can choose to keep it if you can use the 3 slots or if it got level or added quality, your choice) Do this in this specific order.

Gems don't level up through experience, just through higher level uncut gems, so you're not really losing much if you corrupt now rather than at 20, you'll be getting plenty of uncut level 20 skill gems I assume once you're at that point. Just like he has a bunch of unused 17 right now.

It allows you to get the +1 corruption, which can then be leveled. So a level 1 gem that corrupts to level 2 will get to 21 from leveling is my understanding.

Corrupted gems can still level up. The only thing that changes when you corrupt a gem is that you are unable to use currency to quality up the gem. So ideally you level the gem, quality it up to max then Vaal it. The ideal outcome is gem and quality levels go up when you vaal it, or in this case the links.

@@bawzzzz its not a complex thing... just depends what you are tryng to hit and how much currency you can throw at skill gems. This is just a basic way to not spend 20 exalts for 1 gem socket rather just spend 1 exalt for 7 tries at it. You can get lucky but also can get VERY unlucky and spend 20 exalts anyway. Fact of it is, if you want all 3 aspects qual, level and socket. You have to manually add 1 of the 3, be it levels, sockets or Quality. Once a gem is corrupted you cannot add sockets or quality via jewellers or gem cutters. They also may in the future if balance sees fit to make it so you cannot level up the skill either after its corrupted since you have to technically use a skill gem as a kind of "currency" to level it up. The guy above you is incorrect in the "Ideal" situation since it doesnt work like POE1 where you had to level the gem to 20 before corrupting it and qual to 20 or else you couldnt get it any higher as it would go +/- 1 level if possible and if it went -level it would only level back up to 20 not go to 21, (Difference in POE2 is the + level works as a implicit modifier so it can go to level 20 + 1 no matter what since its not tied directly to the gem level itself) or up to +3 added qual and minus was RNG for qual.

@@bawzzzz If you Vaal a Level 1 gem, with 0 quality, the best outcome you can get is a level 20 gem with 23 quality. However, if you Vaal a level 20 gem with 20 qual, the best outcome is a level 21 with 23 quality gem. TLDR: The Vaaling process can increase your gem level by 1, therefore you ideally vaal a max level gem. PS. It appears that POE 2 has changed this, and the +1 gem level is added as a prefix meaning the above explanation does not apply in POE2. Sorry for confusing you.

No, corrupted cant be changed, only leveled. In 99% of cases, your main skill gem for attacking/casting will benefit far greater than from an additional link than quality.

If you corrupt the gem in this way.. then yes... Max you can have in game is 5 support gems. Since uncut gems are dropping like candy right now... you would use this 5L till you have acquired the 5 and 6 link Jew orb. Then just make a new gem and 6 link it and replace your corrupted 5L.

Also. Just am update on that gem legionair summoner. Its ass in comparison lol. Sure some real late game options might open up. But the campaign is am absolute slog being so weak for so long. Witch has nodes from level 1 for summons. Merc maxes its summons at level 30 lol. Had a few good spikes in dage that carried. Its still going well enough. But the 100% more damage witch gets automatically is just too good to not do. Very unfortunate. Ill wait for templar to release to run another summoner. For now ill keep pushing. If they shifted the legionaire ascendency nodes around a bit it would be way way better. But having the +1 skill gem AND multiple supports hidden behind garbage reallt hurts its viability while leveling. +1 should be on a forst ascend node instead of quality. Quality is just too weak and random im this game. Spirit is also a huge issue. The rwduced coat node should but doesnt help with spirit. Also the gas arrow getting nuked into infinity and my auto bomb getting it a day later reallt tanked a day for me lol. Having to massively adjust. Arsonist works decent but reavers feel way better most of the time. Body block amd damage is comparable imo. Need more support slots which ill use this videos method and speal more on it. Currently looking to roll a higher damage scepter. Ill update after i roll a good one. Still rocking a buff lvl24 rod. Havnt rolled ahit for mods since lol. 25 scepters later haha P.s. supports not having quality at all reallt made that node useless lol. The moment they add quality stats to them the build gets huge. Here is to hoping that happens

the only way to get 5 link gems is to use a greater jeweller's orb which at the time costs 17 exalted orbs on trade site. so if you are ssf just keep farming until you drop a greater.
