Today we’re going to walk through the necessary steps for designing a double-sided pole mounted banner from a single piece of 18 oz. block-out material.
First, design the banner at the desired finished size. As an example, our banner is 72” tall and 24” wide. This will be Side A of our banner.
Next, we create the pockets for the poles. Duplicate the top and bottom of your banner based on pole pocket size. Pockets are measured by adding 1½” to the diameter of the poles. In our example, we’re using a 2” pole, so our pockets must be 3½”.
Rotate each strip 180 degrees, then add them to the top and bottom of the banner.
We also need to add ½” of background bleed to the width to ensure accurate registration with the opposite side. Now our banner design is 79” tall by 24½“ wide.
Finally, we need to create Side B. Side B is identical to Side A except for one thing. Remove ¼” of color from all 4 sides of Side B. Do not reduce the size of the image, just remove the color from the edges, leaving a white bar on every side. The overall size of Side B should be identical to Side A.
Now your banner design is complete and ready to be sent to printing. Once printed and finished, our example banner will measure out at the intended 72” tall by 24” wide. We’ve successfully designed a double-sided pole mounted banner.
