I'm buying a new GHD for my wife as I broke her one that I brought her on our first Christmas in 2007. You get a sub from me for your well detailed comparison

I just bought the Platinum Plus from Amazon 2 weeks ago for slightly less in price than normal and it was genuine I found when I called their freephone number to register the straighteners. The woman on the phone know exactly which ones I had before I actally registered them. Obviously I told her something about them first. They were great on the phone and picked up right way! The straighteners themselves are my first ever GHD item and they're perfect!

I have used GHD gold wider version for 4 years and it's working still great, I only noticed tiny spots were ceramic peeled off.

I M A QYN I am confused between getting a wide plate GHD or not as I have really thick hair, but I have heard a wide plate is more difficult to use/control? Is that true in your op? Thank you :-)

My platinum straighteners have broken 3 times in under 3 years, each time I send them back & get a brand new set that also doesn't last a year! They are now offering me the brand new gold standard but I don't want to lose quality of straightening as when my platinum work they are really good.
@KristyJoan6 жыл бұрын
You won't lose the quality by going to the new Gold, it is so so similar to platinum!

Should’ve showed us both on your hair You’re right it’s best to try them in store :) agreed x

I find when I do side-by-side comparisons of straighteners on my hair they pretty much look exactly the same bc my hair is fine! It's more about the feeling of the hair after and repeated use that you see a diff, especially with hair types other than mine!

hate it when someone can not just give their opinion on what one they prefer the most, thats the whole reason i clicked on the review

Hey, sorry if it wasn't clear- I love the platinum but if you have fine hair that is easier to straighten, you can just go for the gold. Have a good day :)

Get the gold V. I had the classic gold V for around 5 years before it died on me, then I bought the platinum and I really don’t like it :( It’s too big/thick and bulky and it’s not comfy to hold so I feel I have less control. I also felt like the V was smoother and glided through my hair better.

Thank you for making the comparison video! I'm looking for a straightener which won't damage my hair (or cause less damage). I think I will go for the Platinum plus😄 BTW Will it be better if I apply some moroccan oil before using the iron?

I have had a chi for probably a good 7 years, at least. I’m looking to upgrade to something new. I think ghd is what I’m leaning towards. However, I can’t decide between these two. I use my flat iron to straighten as well as curl my hair all the time, so I’m used to curling with it. The ghd platinum looks more appealing to me for the reason that the barrel is larger and more rounded, which seems better for curling. But the ghd gold gets hot through out the entire wand, making me think the curls will last longer. I have fairly thick hair, mid length with layers, mostly natural (non-dyed). What is your opinion on this? I seriously can’t decide!
@KristyJoan6 жыл бұрын
Hello! If you use a high quality curl hold product, both straighteners will make the curls last equally as long. If you're unsure I suggest to go into a store and try both- it's the only way you'll know which one you love!

Do the plates touch each other on the platinum.
@joyce999996 жыл бұрын
Actually, Kristy, i liked your review/video a lot and thought it was very informative....just wondered if anyone knew what the plates are now made of, since they are no longer using ceramic, except for the classic. The rest was just 'venting', as i mentioned in my return comment to you. Thanks again for your most excellent review here! 💗

Hi I need help I’ve had the eclipse for years now and I love it my bf very kindly brought me the upgrade platinum styler but I’m not in love does anyone no anything about the plates not touching! Are mine faulty!? Mine have a pretty large gap where as my eclipse is tiny and if I squeeze there’s no gap but the platinums just don’t seem to preform as well and I feel like this is why
@KristyJoan6 жыл бұрын
Hey Fiona! Ahh I can't believe I didn't bring this up- the plates are not supposed to touch! This is for 2 reasons: A. the plates actually expand when hotter, so this allows this room to expand and B. if the plates were to touch without a gap, it does not allow room for hair to sit 100% flat within these two plates (this is difficult to explain in words and easier to explain with a physical demonstration). The platinum has a lower heating surface area, I think this is why most people are finding they don't like it as much- it is definitely for different hair types!

Hi. What i would like to know, and something i cannot find on any review or on the ghd website is WHAT ARE THE PLATES MADE OF ON THE PLATINUM GHD? GHD used to use ceramic plates, then ceramic 'coating', and then ??? The whole point was the ceramic was supposed to be more gentle on your hair, and looks like they don't use ceramic at all now! what gives? Also, they don't tell you that their irons, etc. are made in China now! That's important to me, and to a lot of other people, so why? Is it really in order for GHD to make a cheaper product so they get more profit? That's pretty sh---y, if you ask me. Many products made in China are made cheaply because they ARE cheap and don't work or last as long as previously, plus it takes jobs away from the UK/US or wherever, which also stinks....makes me less likely to buy a GHD. So, their production costs are cheaper and therefore they make a much greater profit for themselves, yet you don't see them lowering their prices for the consumer, do you? Note to GHD: SO, DO YOU THINK WE DON'T NOTICE, OR WHAT? Do you think we don't know that you obviously don't care about the people who spend their hard earned money on your products? We do! SHAME ON YOU, GHD! SHAME ON YOU!

Hey Joyce- you are very passionate and you have every right to be! To answer your question, I am under the impression that the final layer is similar to the Japanese Kyocera coating (but I think it may be a dupe). The idea is that it leaves it even smoother than the plain ceramic. Jemella (the company that took GHD to chinese factories) obviously must disclose on their boxes where they are made- and the original GHDs were never made in UK/US but were made in South Korean factories. They did lower the prices 7 years ago when they took over, bringing the standard $299 to now $189, however I 100% see where you are coming from. This is why I usually recommend the Halo range to those who want quality over a brand name (GHD, Cloud 9 etc.). I hope this helped, but I suggest you email GHD customer service if you want to let them know how you feel as I do not work for GHD :)
@joyce999996 жыл бұрын
Hi, Kristy: I am not, in any way, blaming you for any negative issues i have with GHD....was just venting! Yes, i have also gone to the GHD website and was just commenting on the fact that there are no 'questions and answers' mechanism, and GHD is not forthcoming about where their stylers are made, nor about what, exactly, the plates are now made of. The only mention of plate content is for the GHD Classic, which they list as ceramic. I am also not, in any way, blaming you for GHDs pricing, or about the overall quality deteriorating (breaking down more often and faster, etc.), but again, was just commenting/venting. If i gave the impression i was blaming you in any way, or that you are somehow associated with GHD as a company, please accept my sincerest apologies.

I have seriously thick hair that's been coloured like 5 times!! Is the Gold more reliable??
@KristyJoan6 жыл бұрын
To be honest Sofia, I don't really recommend any GHD for very VERY thick hair- you are best to use a Titanium straighter (like the Halo Farrah or Silver Bullet Titanium) on a lower setting. It'll be ten times more reliable for you!

Heya! I did a video a bit over a year ago comparing GHD, Cloud 9 + Halo- if your hair is thick I'd personally go either the Halo Farrah (a titanium iron) or the new GHD Platinum +. Hope I helped!

Kristy Gallirhir I watched that video too 😊 I’m gonna go for the new GHD platinum + just scared of paying £175 and they turn out to be not as good as the earlier models (which is what I’ve heard on the previous models ). But I think I’ll be happy with them (right now I’m using some shit BaByliss £40 so they have to be better than that! ) thanks for responding 😘❤️

What about original vs gold
@KristyJoan4 жыл бұрын
Hey! I have done a video each on these straighteners- basically the Original GHD is a basic ceramic straightener- great as an introductory or for very fine hair. The Gold is way more smoothing & better for fine to medium hair types!

Peoples says that platinum doesn't work after 2 year is it true?
@KristyJoan6 жыл бұрын
My platinum is still working since the day I got it, but I am aware that a lot of people are finding that they don't last as long as they original did. I believe they have updated it so new platinums shouldn't have this problem anymore.

Help! I have a pair of really old, limited edition pink ghd's and have recently had my hair cut short (chin length) so have started curling my hair again. I really want to upgrade my ghd's and was set on the platinums. However, watching this video of the platinum and gold's side by side, the platinums look bulkier... does anyone with short hair find this a problem for achieving curls with short hair? Thinking I should maybe for for the gold pair if they're slimmer... (Can't go into a salon/shop to try as live in the middle of nowhere!!) Anyone find the platinums unsuitable for curling short hair? x
@KristyJoan6 жыл бұрын
They are chunkier in style and are harder to get to the root of the hair- however GHD is in the middle of changing the original Gold series to a updated version- that has a similar barrel size to the platinum. Your other option is the GHD Mini but you would get tighter curls. Hope this helped :)
