I remember seeing a production of Macbeth by Covent Garden in Athens Herodus Atticus ancient theatre, in 1985 or 86, with Dimitrova in the role ...and in her first appearance on the stage, with her first high note, the audience held his breath...it was a brilliant staging of the opera...

Fearless and tireless. Maria Callas may have been the ideal Lady but Ghena made a strong case and lived to tell the story.

Callas's Lady has never been equalled, I think partly because she understood that it was a bel canto roles that required every technical proficiency demanded of a Norma. She could sing those trills in this aria and the drinking song in a way that nobody since has done, and she also had those thousands of colors and shades. Ghena definitely outshines anyone in this role on stage today. She was the real deal.

Per voi le registrazioni truccate di tantissimi artisti lirici sono tutto, per me le recite dal vivo ! Molti tra di voi non si rendono conto come i tecnici del suono con l’arrivo dello Stereo vi educavano con i loro registrazione ben truccate… Voi siete la generazione delle registrazioni truccate , è un fatto. Una delle prove ? La registrazione di Norma Corelli, La Callas, La Nicolai - questa registrazione come tantissime altre è una vergogna. La verità! La Nicolai dal vivo aveva una voce molto più bella e grande della vocalità della Callas ! Per questa ragione i tecnici del suono d’origine italiana hanno truccato la voce della Callas . La avete bevuta è come !!! il vecchio
