People are so uneducated about so many things, and maybe if they did their homework on this issue they'd realise how destructive these pests are. I actually did some reading on the subject, and it's really no joke. Iguanas are SO destructive to so many things, and if they are left unchecked, bridges, roadways, buildings, etc would all fall and people could die...its THAT serious. Ok, let me start counting the different charges here.... Three counts of verbal harassment of hunters, one count of physical assault, two counts of intimidation, and a record of aiding an infestation of an invasive species(a felony, as well.) You could have(and probs should have) called Florida Fish and Wildlife, and had the property condemned for "an infestation of wild animals", as well as had at least two of those resident's arrested for their actions. You've got their admission to a felony on tape- USE IT.

OK Gents, some sound advice for this situation. (1) Unless you were directly contracted by the Landlord or Property Management Company you are technically Trespassing on Private Property. (2) Take video evidence of the residents feeding the Iguanas and submit this to the Landlord, City and County proving the Residents are perpetuating the problem. (3) Contact the Landlord to see if he/she wants the lizards controlled, AND how they want them controlled (IE: Shot, Trapped, Snared or Poisoned). (4) I understand that it is legal to hunt them because they are an invasive species and they are destructive/aggressive, but you need to let the Landowner/City/County/State make that legal determination and notify the Landowner of his/her options. Don't just appear out of nowhere and start popping/trapping or hurting the animals in plain view. This never goes over well. I speak from experience in controlling Ground Squirrels. People think these fuzzy, cute animals are harmless. Nope, they are not! At any rate, keep up the good work. Just some suggestions to keep you guys on the right side of Law Enforcement on all levels. Good Show Guys!
@andreashessler838
@andreashessler838 2 жыл бұрын
You are completely right on all of this. Grey squirrels are incredibly invasive here and are destructive, but people get attached to them, feed them and like to see them in the common areas. They need to be eradicated to give native wildlife a chance to recover, but you have to go through the proper channels. You can't just turn up to a private estate (or public area actually) and start killing stuff.

The video didn’t make it clear if they were contracted by the department manager or not. If they were then they should tell the depart apartment manager that the reason why there’s so many iguanas is some of the residents are feeding them so they’re attracting them and apartment manager needs to stop that. I had one friend who fed stray cats in front of her apartment and that attracted about 10 or more and finally, there were so many that the apartment manager told her she had to stop feeding them and stray.

Once enough have come in slam the net straight down on them. The either quickly thrust stakes down to help hold it. Or place heavy bricks along the edges to help hold them down. I don’t like how people feed pigeons since it lures dozens of birds in one place and they crap on everything, balconies, train stations, sidewalks, pavements, etc. and also the picnic table and picnic benches that you want to eat your picnic on

Nothing excuses his putting hands on you. That is 100% wrong. But that being said... if you were on private property and did not have permission to be there... you were trespassing and were breaking the law the moment the residents said you needed to leave.

The residents are not the authority. That's why they have the police.
@sfcmmacro
@sfcmmacro 3 жыл бұрын
@@finaloption... not true, the owners/residents have the legal right to demand a trespasser leave... a person does not have to wait for police to enforce a law. If they were trespassing and the trespasser refused the LAWFUL verbal order of the owner/resident to leave... then the owner/resident has the right to escalate the situation. There is no requirement to wait for police to respond. It’s called the “castle doctrine” in legal terms and means that a person has the right to defend themselves and their property and not wait on the police.

@@meyou-mk3qz Don’t take my word for it, ask a lawyer or police officer if the following is correct... A tenant has signed a contract that makes them an “authorized person” to tell a person to leave the property. The same way at a strip mall with a dozen businesses, any one tenant businesses can trespass someone from the entire property. You will notice that the law does not state a police officer must issue the trespass violation... Florida law 810.09 Trespass on property other than structure or conveyance. “If the offender defies an order to leave, personally communicated to the offender by the owner of the premises OR BY AN AUTHORIZED PERSON, or if the offender willfully opens any door, fence, or gate or does any act that exposes animals, crops, or other property to waste, destruction, or freedom; unlawfully dumps litter on property; or trespasses on property other than a structure or conveyance, the offender commits a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.” www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2020/810.09
@sfcmmacro
@sfcmmacro 3 жыл бұрын
@@meyou-mk3qz and if my 1st reply isn’t good enough... this one is straight from Orlando (which mirrors) Florida law, just in plain language. Valid trespass warnings must be provided by the property owner, lessee, or other authorized agent of the property owner. Warnings come in many forms: posting the structure or conveyance with signage to indicate that entry is prohibited or restricted (e.g., “Authorized Personnel only”; locked or closed doors), written trespass warnings, and verbal warnings. A “person authorized” means any owner, lessee, agent, or any law enforcement officer whose department has received written authorization from the owner, lessee, or agent, to communicate an order to depart the property. Trespass in a structure or conveyance is a second degree misdemeanor. If the structure or conveyance is occupied at the time of the trespass, the offense is a first degree misdemeanor. If the trespasser is armed, or becomes armed during the trespass, the offense is armed trespass and is a third degree felony. 1.1.2 TRESPASS ON PROPERTY OTHER THAN A STRUCTURE OR CONVEYANCE (§810.09, Fla. Stat.) A person who, without being authorized, licensed, or invited, willfully enters upon or remains in any property other than a structure or conveyance: 1. As to which notice against entering or remaining is given; either by actual communication to the offender or by posting, fencing, or cultivation as described in §810.011, Fla. Stat.; or 2. If the property is the unenclosed curtilage of a dwelling and the offender enters or remains with the intent to commit an offense thereon, other than the offense of trespass, commits the offense of trespass on property other than a structure or conveyance. “Unenclosed curtilage” is unenclosed land or grounds, outbuildings, etc., adjacent to a dwelling and habitually used in connection with the dwelling. This might include a tool shed, dog run, detached laundry area, etc., that does not fall within the continuous roofed area of the home, and which is not enclosed by fencing or a substantial hedgerow. It is a first degree misdemeanor if the offender defies an order to leave; if the offender opens a door, fence, or gate, or does anything that exposes animals, crops, or other property to waste; or if the offender dumps litter. §810.09(2)(b), Fla. Stat. Trespass on property other than a structure or conveyance is a first degree misdemeanor. If the trespasser is armed, or becomes armed during the trespass, the offense is armed trespass and is a third degree felony. Notice against trespassers may be provided by posting, fencing, cultivation, or actual communication (warning). See, generally, §810.011 for the definitions of posting, fencing, cultivation, etc. Some types of property are presumed to have notice against entering, such as residential property under five acres (§810.011 (5)(b), Fla. Stat.). Warning may be given by the property owner or by a person authorized to do so by the property owner, including an Orlando Police officer if the procedure outlined in this directive is properly followed. A warning may be in writing (by issuing a Trespass Warning form - see Attachment A) or may be verbal. A verbal warning by the property owner or his or her agent is sufficient to constitute warning against remaining in or reentry onto the property. The inability to issue a written Trespass Warning to the subject does not prohibit a subsequent arrest for trespass if there is evidence through a sworn statement or other evidence to establish when the trespass warning was given and that it was given to the same subject. The property owner or agent’s sworn statement must clearly indicate how the verbal warning was communicated to the subject, and there must be proof to indicate that the subject was aware of that verbal warning. For example, the property owner might state, “I told him to his face that he had to leave and could not come back, and then the subject told me, ‘I can come back any time I want.’” www.orlando.gov/files/sharedassets/public/documents/opd/policies-and-procedures/police-operations/1127.6-trespass-warnings.pdf

A feral hog type trap. Set up a circle of portable dog panels. Add a couple of panels in a way that they can slam down quickly. Then set it up somewhere like this where they regularly go for feeding. Or spend a few days just feeding them in a spot. Even better if you are able to feed them with the trap in place. Once you've gotten as many as possible in there the doors need to come down very fast & at once. After you insure they can't get out easily you can take your time snaring them for transport. I'd also say to weigh down the fence panels and gates so they can't be easily moved. Especially since it's a more portable structure than a hog trap. Maybe assign one of you to watch that none get out. Especially since I just realized they do climb. Yes I'm an idiot at times. But it's too damn early to be up. Maybe try smooth hard plastic in on the iguanas side. Unless you can weld then you can just take these ideas, lookup the big hog traps & somehow combine them to produce an ugly but working pile of parts. A

That's what happens when humans are irresponsible and turn pets lose when they get tired of them. I realize that is not the only way they are out of control but for sure a big part of the problem. Fla has a major issue with invasive species. I think the problem in FLORIDA with reptiles compares with the hog problem in my home state of Texas. Thanks for the work and the video. God bless and keep safe! Nuff said
