She absolutely deserved the hell out of that Oscar, holy crab. It was a long long time since I saw this movie and I'd forgotten so much of it. That scene when she snarls she'll give up the check and turns her face as she's speaking into a comically pleasant smile OMG... I died and rewinded that bit like 20 times lol. She's a truly gifted comedienne. (Came back to life before having to go with the black wraith things into the shadows.)

"I love you, Molly. I've always loved you." "Ditto." Fun Fact: For several years, Patrick Swayze had women coming up and asking him to recite the line "Ditto" from the movie. Sounds From Hell Fact: The horrific sounds made by the "dark shadows" are really the sounds of multiple baby cries, played at extremely slow speed backwards. Men Can Cry Fact: Screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin wanted Patrick Swayze to play Sam Wheat after he saw an interview Swayze gave. When he brought up his father, Swayze became emotional and began to weep. Rubin thought if a macho guy like Patrick Swayze could cry over a loved one, he'd be perfect for this movie. In the farewell scene where Sam tells Molly (Demi Moore) that he always loved her, Patrick Swayze's emotion was real, for he thought about his own father, who passed away in 1982.

“10’s & 20’s” 🤭 Whoopi was a breath of fresh air & a relatable touchstone as Oda Mae. Swayze fought for her casting & boy was he right. Gratefully, this role (& The Color Purple) catapulted her into all sorts of fantastic roles in the 90’s. RIP Patrick Swayze, Rick Aviles, Phil Leeds, Vincent Schiavelli & Maurice Jarre (amongst other talented souls who entertained us so well). Another fab reaction in the books, James! @@DiggitySlice I will speak up in her defense, because in addition to being a medium, she was also the pastor of the First National Spiritualist Church, one of many such home-based churches in OKC in the 1920s. I’m not a believer in Spiritualism myself (I’m very much a science-based agnostic), but I truly think that she was fully devout in her faith. In fact, when she was arrested for illegal fortune telling, her unsuccessful appeal was based on her First Amendment right to freedom of religion. It was obvious that she and her lawyers were trying to get the appellate court to rule on whether Spiritualism was a religion, but they flat out said in their opinion that they wouldn’t touch that with a ten foot pole.

Whoa, that’s pretty interesting. From what I read, interest in the occult became mainstream around the 20s, and ppl would have mediums at high end parties and such. The movie The Others (sooo good) comes to mind as it depicts that era.

- Nominated for 5 Oscars in 1990: Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress (Whoopi Goldberg), Best Original Screenplay (Bruce Joel Rubin), Best Film Editing, and Best Original Score. It won two awards - Whoopi Goldberg won in the Supporting Actress category, and Bruce Joel Rubin won for writing. - Ghost was the highest-grossing film of 1990, ahead of Goodfellas, and the other famous films Godfather Part III and Dances With Wolves. The film made $505 million against a budget of only $23 million, and at the time of its release, was the third-highest grossing film of all time. It's been surpassed, of course, but it's an interesting tidbit. -Directed by Jerry Zucker, who was one of the co-directors on "Airplane!" He and his brother David usually direct parody films together, so this was a change of pace for him. -Bruce Willis turned down Patrick Swayze's role as Sam, saying that he didn't understand the story. He later called himself a "knucklehead" for saying no to it. Michael J. Fox did the same thing, and had the same response. -Bruce Joel Rubin said he got the idea for the story after watching the famous "Revenge my death" scene from Hamlet. -The clay pottery scene has been called one of the most iconic scenes in film; it's been parodied numerous times, including by the Zucker brothers in the second Naked Gun movie. -Tony Goldwyn, who played Carl, once had a waitress refuse to serve him in a restaurant, but because he was never a huge name, he couldn't figure out why until she asked him if he was an actor. When he said yes, and told her he was in "Ghost," she put it together. In fact, he had a ten-year stretch where he had a hard time finding work because fans were upset he killed Patrick Swayze's character. Reportedly, he had to do the voice of the title character in the animated film "Tarzan" (1999) to get fans back on his side. -Along with another 1990 film, Pretty Woman, "Ghost" is seen as helping make romantic comedies economically viable. -Jerry Zucker often cast his mother Charlotte in cameo roles in his films; she plays the bank officer in this film (in "Airplane!" she was the woman who smears her makeup during the turbulence). Charlotte Zucker passed away in 2007.

i have 2 friends who are mediums. Neither is overly excited about their "gift". One says he hates to stay at other people's houses because their relatives sometimes keep him up. One time he said he told them "look dammit! I'm tired and I'm going to sleep. You can pull the sheets, you can make noise, I DON'T CARE." I laughed when he told me, but he was not amused.

I have always loved this movie but one of my favorite parts is when Sam says that you take the love inside with you. Although I know we can never really know if that's true, the idea that my loved ones that have passed on are filled with positive thoughts of love, makes me feel comforted. Edit: I just got to the end of your video and I kid you not, while watching your reaction, the whole time I was googling Harry Potter gift suggestions for my son for his birthday next week. Fun fact: Tony Goldwyn went to eat at a restaurant and he was treated so badly because of the role he played in for the movie. The waitress asked if he was an actor and he said yes. I do Broadway and I’ve been in movies. The waitress finally figured it out and said “you’re from that movie”meaning Ghost. He was treated disrespectfully just because of of the movie this movie. He said because of the part that I played in Ghost a lot of people hated me because of how I was the villain for the movie Ghost.

Don't believe in anything supernatural, but love this story. A scary and different movie is Ghost Story, based on the excellent novel by Peter Straub. Fred Astaire, Orson Well, Don Ameche and Melvin Douglas showing the young folks how it's done. I sometimes feel as if the news is like Denethor's palantier in Lord of the Rings. The stones can't lie but Sauron could control what they showed. In this way he made Denethor despair because he thought nobody was coming to Gondor's aid. As Sam says there's good in this world and it's worth fighting for. So limit your viewing of the news.

The great thing about this movie is that it was directed by Jerry Zucker, one-third of the ZAZ group that made Airplane!, Naked Gun and Top Secret (the other Z in ZAZ stands for his brother, David Zucker. Also, if you take recommendations, all three of the comedies I listed are worth watching). I believe it was his first foray into "serious" movies and he knocked it out of the park. Oh, and relevant to the scene with Whoopi and the nuns, another fun crime/comedy movie to put on a list would be "Sister Act".

Hi James! I guess I'm just a glutton. All my life I've loved watching television programs, movies...but also LOVED reading too! Wherever I could find a good story I'd take it. And the thing I've always loved about books so much is I can take them anywhere I go and if I'm ever not doing anything I can pick right up where I left off and dive right back into the story. I started reading the Harry Potter books when the fourth one was out. Read 1 - 4 and then picked up each new book as soon as they came out. I've read each Harry Potter book only once though. There are 2 books I *Highly* recommend for you if you haven't read them...they are sci-fi suspense, both by an author named Blake Crouch. The books are "Dark Matter" and "Recursion". Dark Matter is very good but Recursion is one of the best books I've read in my life!!! Another extremely great book is "The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August" by Claire North. I've read and re-read this book maybe 5 times now. It's sci-fi but also spiritual. Very interesting! There's a great series of books by a different author but in the same vein as Harry August... They are called the "Middle Falls Time Travel Series" by Shawn Inmon. The first book is "The Unusual Second Life of Thomas Weaver". There's about 18 books in the series now and the author only started like 8 years ago! He writes 2 or 3 novels a year! I don't know how he does it! But the series is pretty great! I started reading A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) back in 1998...there were only 2 books out then but when the 3rd book came out in 2000 I went absolutely nuts over how great it was. I was chomping at the bit for the next book! I didn't know how I was going to wait 2 whole years!!! 😂😂😂 Now, *if* there's ever any more books to complete the series I'll pick them up and read them and if they are even half as good as the first 3 I'll probably enjoy myself, but the fire-like intensity I held for this series is gone for good. Right now I'm rereading many of my Ken Follett books. They're historical fiction. They are fantastic! He has this one series called the Kingsbridge Series that all take place around this little town in England. Time periods range from the 1000's to the 1600's. There's at least a hundred years, usually a couple hundred years separating the events of each book so they are each almost atand alone stories, sometimes a character or characters in one book are decendents of characters in another book but that's never a big part of the plot. The fifth book in the series is coming out at the end of September and I am really excited for it! Ken Follett has also written a 3 book series called "The Century" and I also highly recommend that! It's 3 books that all take place in the 20th century in a few countries. The first book takes place throughout World War I and follows characters in England, Germany, Russia, and the United States. The second book takes place throughout World War II and is about the children of the characters in the first book. The third book takes place throughout the years of the Cold War and follows the grandchildren of the characters in the first book. Fantastic series!!! There's also a quite a few actual stand alone novels by Follett, 2 of them, "A Dangerous Fortune" and "A Place Called Freedom", I also highly recommend! Best Regards!

Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only change forms. So if we believe in the soul, we must believe in ghosts, at least in principle. What form they take, and to what extent, if any, they have influence over the living is a whole universe of possibility. But even if the energy that makes us human scatters to the wind to stretch out across time and space, and even if consciousness doesn't survive, life still goes on even after death. I love this movie. Always have. Scared the hell out of me when I saw it as a kid, though. lol

This is such a great movie! Thank you for enjoying it with us. As for believing in ghosts... I don't believe in an afterlife; I believe that we're given this life as a gift and we're expected to make the most of it and be as good a person as possible now because that's what advances us all spiritually, not because of some sort of mystical punishment you might dread when you die. BUT, in 1993, the night my nana passed away in the hospital, (my parents had gone in to be with her, but I had to stay home because they didn't want me to see what was happening)I went into my bedroom and saw her standing in the corner near the closet, dressed in some sort of nightgown. She looked sad and disappointed. When I spoke to her and stepped toward her, she sort of faded away. In that moment, my mind didn't wonder how that was possible, she was just there, absolutely. Later, my parents came home and told me she had passed on. When I told my family about what I saw, my uncle told me that if she could say goodbye to anyone, it would have been me, and he believed me completely. I still think about that, and wonder what I saw. I know there are so many people with stories just like this, that I wonder if somehow my brain made it up, and I still feel unsure if I believe in ghosts or if what I saw was real. It was real to me, I guess.

The police station scene should've been cut. Cops are more open minded than that. She said she had the name and location of the man who killed her boyfriend and they would've gone to his apartment with her, knock on the door and she would've identified him.

I really, *really,* REALLY hope sometime on here you'll react to Dead Again (1991), starring Sir Kenneth Branaugh (from the Harry Potter franchise), Dame Emma Thompson, his wife at the time (from the Nanny McPhee franchise), Sir Derek Jacobi (from Nancy McPhee and also the star of the British mystery series Cadfael, about a crime-solving medieval monk, that aired here on PBS), Wayne Knight (the computer guy in Jurassic Park, a cop in Basic Instinct, and Jerry's postal worker nemesis Newman on Seinfeld), and the late, great, Robin Williams, as well as Andy Garcia (from The Untouchables, The Godfather Part III, and Ocean's Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen). It's a supernatural murder mystery. ****PLEASE**** consider it! (And the score is chef's kiss!) If you'd like to see the bad guy (Tony Goldwyn) play another villain, react to The 6th Day, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Of course, it's amazing you haven't seen Whoopi star in Sister Act yet!

I love this movie. It's got so many classic scenes that have been homaged and parodied throughout years. It's great. I love that they created a character who cheated people by pretending to communicate with the dead, to communicate with the dead. Her terror and confusion when he first speaks to Oda May were brilliant on Whoopi's end. Thankfully, I can separate the person, from the artist in most cases because I REALLY don't like Whoopi Goldberg as a person. But she's no doubt a talented actress & comedian.

This was such a great movie. I watched it every year with my mother before she passed away last year. And I 100% am with you on the news. It seems like the news rule of thumb is: "Bad news is good news and good news is no news." For every bad thing we hear, hundreds of good things went unreported. It's sad. Great reaction, glad you enjoyed it. There are so many great films you've missed. As a fellow book worm, I've been devouring books since the 80s, I understand completely. Trust me though, there are some movies that are just must see.

I didn't believe in Ghosts until I experienced one. I watched a Rocking Chair rocking in an old house as if someone were in it. When I walked over to the chair the rocking stopped. I eliminated all the explainable resona that could cause the rocking (no breeze, no threads, etc). As i was leaving the room the chair started rocking again. A couple of years later I was running CAT-5 Cable in the Celing of an old Hospital. The Hospital was going through a renovation and the floor was empty. I was the only person on this floor. Doors would open and close, lights would go on and off just as if Patients were in the rooms. I also saw a short dark figure (aka Shadowmanz0 peek his head out of a doorway and then dart back into the room. I never believed in Ghosts until thesr events happened. I do believe in them now! PS: the Hospital floor I was working on had previosly been a Cardiac Care Unit, a floor where many people died over the years.
