To me.. these lyrics are almost Christian in nature. As a believer in the redemption of Christ myself, I could be simply interpreting it that way on my own world view. But to me it reads like someone who realized they were starving for the water of life. "Death Confetti" to me means multiple things 1.the death of our former nature should be celebrated because it poisons us and separating us from our maker. 2. The bodily death is actually a time of celebration because it means we finally get to reunite with He who loves and created all. "The flood will wash away your crime" - the flooding love of Jesus washes away your deepest darkest sins; you do not have to continually ask for forgiveness, He accepts you back with open arms if you genuinely seek Him. "Surrender your love" - surrendering ourselves to love our God who loves us. "I was skin and bones" - being desperately sick and starving for truth. "I'm simply slipping / i just keep on slipping away" - slipping away from who we once were, to become our true selves found in Christ; OR it means slipping away from the path of light (easy to do in our fallen human state). Either way, sanctification means our sinful nature must die so that we may become new. "You are the ocean and i swim the tide for catharsis" - Christ is the water of life, diving into His truth is freedom. Freedom from the chains of our broken sinful nature, but also a weight lifted off us in knowing that we do not have to be fearful, for the battle is already won for those that are found in Him. "Ink in the wool messiah" - Jesus is the lamb of God (wool); Ink..maybe ink well? Well of knowledge? Not sure specifically on that one. "Starved for the light of the everglow" - Our nature seeks the darkness, we like our sin. But something within us often calls us away toward the path of light. Everglow meaning an eternal burning light that cannot be stamped out. "Breaking the waves beside us" - those who trust in the strength of God can rely on the waves of tribulation to be broken by His hand; not so much that we do not experience some tribulation but so that it does not engulf us. "cut to the bone" - being convicted by the Spirit of the lord feels like this, its visceral. "Shimmer tracing the rim of my halo" - seems self evident. "Feed me lines" and "you've got the notion that i come to life in darkness" - Those together make me feel that he's speaking to Satan there; "feed me lines" kinda like the sinful thoughts that pop up in our mind day to day. Or it could be construed as lines of twisted scripture used to justify our sin. Followed up by a notion that we can come to life in the darkness when in reality, we should be seeking the light. This gost along with "Accost your captor rolling back your eyes" - the devil is the embodiment of deception. His goal is to capture God's children and roll back their eyes so they can not see. I have no idea what Jesse's beliefs are. I won't want to put words in his mouth.. this is simply my won feeling that evokes from listening to and reading these lyrics. I am a believer in Christ and i have come to find that i am wholly incapable of being a "good person" on my own. Our sin could never have been repaid if it weren't for Him choosing to lay down His life for us. I hope this comes as words of encouragement to you. You are loved, and while it isn't easy to accept the Truth, because it convicts us in our wrongful state of sin, it is freeing and there is no condemnation for those found in Him. He does not shine light on sin in order to criticize, He simply wants you to come home and follow him in the light and be a light to others that are starving in the darkness.
