My head cannon for the backstory of this doll. She was a young girl from a poor family attending a prestigious ballet school way back when. Like most talented but poor ballerinas at the time she had a wealthy patron who supported her. Ballerina patrons back in the day often took advantage of the dancers they supported and her’s was no different. He was a from a very rich and influential family and was beyond possessive of the ballerina, the older she got the more possessive and scary he became. The day of her big performance, her patron kidnapped the ballerina and took her to an old family estate of his. He chained her to a wall in the cellar and forced her to dance for hours on end. At some point the poor girl decided she needed to end this by any means necessary, and the next time her patron came down to force her to dance she strangled him to death with the very chains he placed on her. However the ballerina was not able to reach the key to unlock her chains and tried desperately to break free, the links and cuffs cutting into her hands causing them to bleed. After struggling and pulling she eventually broke the chains but all the dancing and struggling was too much for her exhausted body and she collapsed dead. The family of her patron discovered the scene months later and sealed up the cellar to avoid any disgrace coming to them. While they sealed up her body her ghost was free to roam the estate, crying for help for anyone and dancing every so often in the hopes that someone will finally set her free.

So hauntingly beautiful! I love how your dolls tell stories. She makes me think of a prima ballerina in the 1800s who performed on stage with a scene where her character was imprisoned, but who couldn’t get out once the theater caught fire. The blood on her hands was from trying to escape her chains, but never being able to in time, forced to stay on stage forever. Thank you for another doll well done :)

I noticed that the shine of the eye is different than how you often make it in your usual style. I love her! She's so beautiful and sad... wish I could have her. Her name would be Sara. She danced as the swan princess in "Swan Lake" and a dark ghostly man began to haunt her. In an attempt to rid herself of the ghost, she left the ballet. But it angered him and he drove her to throw herself from the rafters of the stage. He then capture her spirit and keeps her captive, always dancing for him as the Swan Princess.

I hear "ghost ballerina" and immediately thought: Oh! Giselle! Or perhaps Nikiya from La Bayadere. Both characters die and come back as ghosts during the ballet. Or maybe Myrtha, the queen of ghosts from Giselle. There are so many ghosts, living dolls, evil faeries, and spooks of all kinds in ballet! Hair up in a bun (not down and loose), very good! The shoes look like actual ballet slippers too. I'm very impressed with your lovely, spooky, ghostly ballerina.
