The dislike towards Prequelle is honestly perplexing. It basically boils down to "WHY SATAN MAN NO PLAY METAL". Bands have always had a thing for experimenting, because if you stick to the exact same formula time and time again, you're eventually gonna run out of ideas and grind to a halt. Prequelle and Seven Inches of Satanic Panic really did a lot of experimenting with the likes of ballads, progressive rock and psychedelic rock. And I have to give Tobias a lot of credit for taking the risk and changing things up a bit.

So awesome that the background video is of a lobotomy/brain surgery. Usually, back in the time where lobotomies we're considered ethical to rid someone of a mental disorder (autism, downs syndrome, etc), the procedure was usually done with a lobotomy pick (imagine an ice pick, but it's designed to be put in the nose), put it up the patients nostril, then use it to slowly chip a hole into the skull. Also, you could say lobotomies we're used to surgically pick ones nose.

This was called trepanning. And it was actually first practiced way back in the Neolithic era across many different cultures spanning across several different continents, from Europe to Asia and the Americas. I’ve heard that it was actually practical in application, being used to treat seizures or migraines. You know, “pressure on the brain.” What’s more is that a lot of people actually survived the surgery!

It was an ancient thing, they thought spirits were stuck in their heads (when people were crazy/had permanent migraines etc) The reason why they continued doing it, even though most died, was because from time to time it actually worked. Some of the skulls found which went thought Trepanation actually had healed edges (of course the hole is still there ur skull doesn't regrow, but the edges of the hole are smoothened out by some small bone regeneration) The only way this is possible is if the patient survived for a considerable amount of time after. It helps with certain real life issues, but we have found better solutions since then. The people who used to do it just put the wrong pieces of the puzzle together, the surgery itself was not wrong.

The treatment of the mentally ill has been one of the darkest stains on humanity until very recently. Lobotomies were considered acceptable treatment, and many also had sexual organs removed because it was believed those people had no right to love or have someone to love. They were also locked away in squalid prison and mistreated in many unfortunate ways. To read about what these people went through is nothing short of sickening and often heartbreaking.

Hindsight is always 20/20, after all. It’s very easy to judge the past with today’s standards and ethics, but when you’re examining history, one of the first rules that they teach you is that you should leave behind the preconceptions of today and examine the past with the preconceptions and beliefs of that time period. Lobotomies, castrations and isolation happened because people of the time just didn’t understand what they were doing or how to deal with people they considered “damaged”. Again, I’m not trying to justify the past or try to minimize the impact of the people who suffered, I’m just saying that those situations weren’t as black and white as they seemed.
