This anime had a really memorable atmosphere, even years after watching it i still think about. had some genuinely scary moment such as the one at the beginning of this video. barely anyone talks about it even now 15 years later, so i really do appreciate this video.

If an anime has any combination of Nakamura Ryuutarou, Chiaki J. Konaka, Abe Yoshitoshi or Ueda Yasuyuki involved, it's a safe bet it's top tier.

Do you have an opinion of who/what was the green figure that the protagonist saw in his "brain"? I couldn't figure out that part. There's a phrase that the green figure says but it could mean a few things. so I would like to know your opinion.

When I first watched this anime i was looking for something spooky, but i ended up getting a deep dive into Spirits, Souls, Ghosts, trauma, thr brain, sleep, and sake? Its nuts, and i personally love it, but yeah, it can be hard to follow sometimes

I'm here as per my bi-annual pelgrimage to this video, and there is a question I have. Since not many people seem to analyse this show to the degree you have done, maybe you have an idea. During the part where we see the backstory of the priest, why was Hideo, Makoto's dad, so ademant on exiting the abandoned hospital through the morgue when he was there in his youth with his friends? Also, it was said by the priest that by doing so he broke some "taboo". And it was portraied as something important. What was that about? Was this ever explained? What are your thoughts?

Sorry for the very late response to this comment, meant to make a reply in the week of its posting but I just got busy and forgot. It's been awhile but I believe that the taboo has to do with Japanese views on the sanctity of the dead, like how often people will say not to step on someone's grave. We do this in fear of retaliation from the afterlife, from another world outside of our own, which is shown to exist in Ghost Hound. Hideo's drive to use that exit may be a display of the "curiosity of man" in spite of such taboos and reverence for the "otherworldly," similar to what is happening to the town in the show with the intrusion of the researchers. We see that his dad after the incident is portrayed as if he were a walking corpse, as in going through that morgue exit he crossed a boundary he shouldn't have. Most likely he was assaulted by spirits of that realm for his action and you could see it as him losing his soul or at least part of it and coming back as a literal shell of a man just waiting for the expiration of its body.

@@PlasmyteHaha, better late than never man. Thanks for the reply. That's an interesting take. I reall wish the anime gave more attention to Hideo.
