Wow I thought the whole intro of her being built was CGI ( obviously CGI was in it, but I didn't realize like 90% of it was props! ) good job guys!

Love this movie, haven't had a film blow my mind with its cinematography. Every scene had its own beauty. There's a lot of negativity surrounding the film. But, at least for me, this was a quality movie. Scarlet Johansen as Major was great!

alejandromolinac I actually really enjoy CG, but it leaves room for people to make mistakes on how real life works. I really like the heavy use of practical effects but still using some CGI to make it look like it's actually happening.

If they incorporate it to the real life effects, I don't mind... I was talking more like when they clutter a scene with a thousand monsters or spaceships... Or the whole movie looks like it's up against a green/blue screen... The Star Wars Prequels come to mind... Of The Mummy Returns, The Haunting would be examples off the top of my head...

Well, the good CGI is the stuff you never notice. A lot of the backdrops in movies these days are completely digital. Not just mattes, either. Watch some FX reels and you'd be amazed by how much is CGI in movies that you'd never expect to need CGI. Stuff like The Wolf of Wallstreet or whatever.

Haters can get fucked on this one, sorry. Grew up with Ghost in the Shell, and this movie was an incredible adaption of it. Scarlett Johansson's performance proves she can do any role, any movie, any time. EDIT: Holy shit, I thought the shelling sequence was 100% CGI until I saw this. Absolutely fucking incredible.
@arsetothem
@arsetothem 7 жыл бұрын
its a Shell without the Ghost. if you Grew up with ghost in the shell, then you should now the story is your typical hollywood action sci-fi story telling, music is mediocre (they couldve hired Kenji for the music), visual effects good though (one of my favorite vfx companies). i would admit they really tried hard on this one.

And yes, unfortunately a lot of what made GITS was watered down because it makes things simpler for the wider audience. I don't like that but most of the other parts were handled well. Plus if they just copy pasted everything from the original movie, it would be dull. Its not a crime to make a spin-off. That's how I view this movie. I'm just tired of the nerd rage because people don't want to accept the fact the things they love are becoming more well known.

When you see the play of actors, all the details, the storytelling and tribute to old one with attention to amuse average viewer and dont pss off the fan, you must be mesmerized what they did there. I wonder now, seeing this, how many people have then gone and watched the entire anime series and read the entire manga. Although, one can get the gist simply by watching the entire anime series, plus all the animated movies. One thing to note, to anyone who cares enough to read this post in full: Every episode on the animated series, every chapter of the manga, and each animated movie, even this movie, touches on something different. They will call back to previous memories but mainly each episodic chapter has its' own story. This time, Scarlett Johansson plays Motoko Kusinagi as she explores her own past, which was hinted at in the animated series, but never fully explored.

Maybe the type of mentality and the marketing had to do with it. It was a risky project cause Japanese mentality is completely different and the anime of GitS didn't have a huge fandom. Something similar with Deadpool and the Guardians of the Galaxy, but difference was in the basic comedy and simple plot that they took in their stories, GitS had a more complex plot (originally).

Such a shame that so much of the internet latched onto whatever snippets of negativity they could come up with before this movie even came out. It's an absolute gem, and it does such a good job of both honoring and weaving together so much of the original source material that I don't think I can consider this anything but my new favorite installment in the franchise. Well done, team.

UltraPhoenix (D@rk $#@d0w) the original ended too abruptly though.....the original felt like just when things were getting really good and interesting the credits roll...this was a fine re-imagination of the original, bits and pieces taken from all versions of Ghost in The Shell, but ultimately heavily influenced by the original. Only thing I'd change is make it R rated.

I like how they've used some of the soundtrack from Ghost in the Shell Innocence movie. The previews so far seem to be showing a mishmash of multiple movies - the Geisha dolls taken from Innocence, the thermoptic camouflage suit from the first Ghost in the Shell animated movie and original comic, the Chief's office seems to be a throwback to one of the Stand Alone Complex anime series. Major's red biker's leathers come from the Arise series of animations. There's so much self-referencing that I'm not sure what the director's hoping to accomplish here, so many different storylines being blended that it is also going to (probably) reduce the pool of legacy material they have to use in follow-up movies. The Innocence storyline was about the destructive copying of human intelligence into robotic servants; Arise is the origin story of Major building up her team. That earlier scenes feature Batou's natural eyes, and later, his cybernetic eyes, implies character development along the lines of some kind of origin story, at least to me. Given Ghost in the Shell's extensive legacy, I am curious to see the movie. But also nervous as to Hollywood's seemingly magical ability to take intellectual properties of impressive stature and drag them through the mud.

It's an original composition, sort of a medley of themes from the two films, by the composer. They performed it live at the GITSTokyo event a while back and did some press regarding it. I think it's only being used for the Shelling Sequence in the live action film, though.
@BrooksLeibee

It's only used in the credits. The Shelling Sequence features some of the new score composed by Clint Mansell and Lorne Balfe.

It was pretty faithful, I thought. They added something to major's character that I admired. Made her more... human for lack of better word. Along with adjusting the story in a few places - they put an interesting twist on the source material. Only thing I can see people complaining about is that Section 9 is somewhat underused here. I don't think that hurt the story, mainly given that they can be explored more in the eventual sequel.

Reviews are in, and consensus seems to be that the movie is a more action oriented film that discards the philosophy of transhumanism for a simpler anti-corporate narrative. Ironic given its typical high budget Hollywood production team. Given the director, I cannot say that is unexpected. But at the same time, I am disappointed that once again, the easy way out is taken in order to appeal to a mass audience for another forgettable action flick.

She nailed that jump like a pro!! I thought that was CGI in the movie, but it was her in wires?! Go SJ! Movie was fantastic! As a GITS fan I was more than please with the attention to detail that went into the movie. SJ was a perfect pick as the Major! Every scene was a work of art and paid homage in the best ways possible to the source material! Cant put the movie over enough! First anime adaption done right. Some might not care for it being an origin story, but I'm fine with it. Not everyone knows why GITS is and this is like an EPs 0 -1 displaying the world before we fully jump in. One can feel the love for the series as you watch this movie. Anyone speaking bad on this film is insane/ didnt watch it.

The sole issue I take with the movie is it didn't have the same music in the beginning of her being put together. That's the only critique I am negative on, the rest was done brilliantly even the cloaked fight with the garbage man in the water area, they got the spins perfect, they did everything else perfectly! I loved it for that! I hate it when directors don't follow the source material, this director is a brilliant director because he didn't change a single thing, it was the most amazing live action movie in a very long time and will forever be in my movie collection!

Yeah; that was my first thought too - "bloopers" in the title is just click-bait. I'm sure there are many, and will eventually come out later. I went on first premiere of this movie in my city, 3D and all. It was great, really great, would watch again but they sadly streamed it only once in English. Can't wait to buy the movie when it comes out on dvd/blue-ray. Visually stunning, they definitely simplified the story a bit but frankly it is still way more deep and interesting than any generic action movie Hollywood usually produces. I also liked how it is mix of everything from different gits series/movies but also in a way own movie. I am actually surprised that lot of effects were not CGI, really impressive. Also, whoever complains about whitewashing actually never watched anime, the whole negative reviews are done by people that have 0 idea about anime and never watched the movie, they are just looking for attention just like all those uneducated, bad-mannered, spoiled chicks screaming loud on every corner and pretending to be feminists (which they are obviously not). The cyborg body of major always had more of caucasian features. I think SJ fit well for this role.

That's why we get Netflix's Death Note. We, Westerners, seem like we're committed on demonstrating how incapable of appreciating good stuff we are.

One thing that I saw in this that REALLY gives me hope for this movie is the boat scene (10:20 in this video) with Kusanagi & Batou when she goes for a swim. For me, that was a defining scene of the whole series. It all depends on the dialogue & how well it is done. As far as looks & feel, I think they have nailed it, other than giving Batou a Lotus Esprit rather than a Lancia Stratos, but that is close enough for me especially considering they do give Kusanagi a Bike. Lets just hope they surprise us with a tachikoma or logicoma showing up somehow.

As a Mateba fan you probably know why they're not using a Mateba 2006M for the movie. There's like 5 of them in the entire US, they're almost impossible to find even in Europe and I doubt they would borrow one from one of the owners to use it on set where you have to get physical with it and might scratch it or break it. It's sad but completely understandable.
