I used to work at a bank and I was always lowkey terrified of getting stuck in the vault. Every bank is different however for the most part, they do not have windows or any type of ventilation. (We had to take a portable fan in ours while counting the cash because it would get significantly warmer in there due to the lack of ventilation) Vaults are also fireproof so they are completely sealed off so that in the case of an emergency the contents within the vault are safe. Needless to say, if somebody was locked in they would 100% suffocate to death. It is also worth mentioning that the walls are extremely thick so even if you were screaming your lungs out nobody would hear you. And finally, vaults have "timers" set to ensure that they can not be opened during closed hours. (example: if the timer is set to 8 hours then the vault would not open AT ALL until the 8 hours have passed) Once the timer is set and the vault is fully closed there is no humanly way possible to open the vault until the timer runs up. (We had to be very careful setting the timers because if we set them to long, they would not be open on time the next day) With all of this being said, I feel so bad for that little girl because that must have been a horrific experience. I frequently had to go into a bank vault where titles and mortgages were kept. SE Bank Operations. My dad was in charge inside a vault at Tinker Air Force Base. I won't say what was kept in there, but his entire department was beyond that vault door - multiple offices, etc... He had three secretaries, too. The rest is classified.

I've worked for a couple banks and I'll tell you that there is no way the vault went 9 days with no one going in there. The vault is opened and used every single business day, multiple times a day. If she was locked in the vault more than one person knew about it.
