@@GaijinGoombah it makes sense in that regard. It’s Legends, a weird retelling of Events of the core game with a much more exaggerated outrageous things. The idea that Legends is basically just Gyozen's wild fanfic is actually kind of supported by the PCs in the game as well as the NPCs. If you take a look at the faces behind the masks, all 3 males are clearly just Jin with glowy eyes, and the archer is Yuna. These "four heroes" are just two of the major players in the actual events being attributed to four people in some kinda reverse Robin Hood because it Gyozen thinks it makes the story better.
@samuraijackoff53544 жыл бұрын
I think that it reflects the 3 paths that Jin takes. The Samurai, the Ronin, the Assasin, then the Ghost. It also fits with the 4 illustrations that you see when you rank up after killing mongols. The Samurai: The Broken Samurai, The Wandering Samurai, The People's Hope Ronin: The Unyielding Wind, The Shadow Samurai, The Hero of Tsushima, The Avenging Guardian Assasin: The Phantom Samurai, The Demon's Blade, The Raging Storm Ghost: The Ghost of Tsushima They can also reflect the many ways how you approach an enemy. You face them head on, You fight without hesitation, from the shadows or with a powerful unnatural force.

I think....I don't think that Gyozen's story is so yokai heavy because he's trying to make a play. I think it's so Yokai heavy because he wants to talk about the history of Tsushima, but he can't fully understand the events around because he's blind so he uses Supernatural aspects to fill in the blanks of whatever he doesn't understand because he couldn't see it
@Shadows_Inc3 жыл бұрын
The only problem is then, that if that's true, he has a very surface level (at most) understanding of Yokai and folklore though XD My guess? He was probably just some guy, with no aspirations, probably a fisherman or something, with no real knowledge of folklore, and had an accident that caused him to go blind. After losing one of his most important senses, bumbling through life for a little while in the dark, he likely went mad, and then the Mongol invasion of Tsushima that happened right after just tipped the pot over.

@@kotlolish It's likely just SuckerPunch using more recognizable imagery for the intended western audiences (the intended market). While livers would be more accurate, "heart" is much more recognizable and understood by westerners, since they might be confused why there is a focus on liver otherwise. It might also just be that SuckerPunch just didn't know. During the original production of the main game, they had Japanese historians on hand to consult for accuracy, but likely didn't have that luxury for FREE multilayer DLC and probably just Googled a list of Yokai to smash together as villains.

I can't help but wonder if part of the inconsistencies with Japanese lore if the fact the Mongolians were involved. Consider that for best example the draining of the three kamis would end the world.. According to Japanese lore and culture.. But said kamis may not be world ending if drained to the Mongolians. Who have different beliefs. To them they would just see them as power sources to make them more powerful. As for the hearts.. Well the onibaba was not eating them but using them on said mongolians to give them powers not herself.
@itsdantaylor3 жыл бұрын
Actually me and a buddy had a fun little thought. Since most of the enemies you encounter in the game (outside of a scant few variants) are still the mongols we think that, basically the "ghosts" are warriors inspired by Jin Sakai, running around Tsushima and taking out Mongols, and Gyozen is just hyperboling the $#@$ out of their deeds to the stuff of myth and legend. So they didn't Stop a Mongol Shipment of slaves, they STOPED A DEMONIC RITUAL AND THWARTED A ONI FROM STEALING PEOPLE'S SOULS.

From a production standpoint: a lot of resources were initially used in the base game to research the historical setting for the game. I'm a bit late, but also a bit obsessed with legends so let me try to make a few things a bit clearer. Iyo is obsessed with taking revenge on the Kami that failed to save her family from the Mongols. On the day of the invasion her family was slaughtered, she prayed to Amaterasu, Tsukoyomi, and finally to Susaonoo, but none answered her prayer. Enraged, she swore revenge for her family. She twisted the souls of the Mongols to do her bidding, and took advantage of the destabilization of Ki on Tsushima to gain an advantage over the souls of the dead and the Kami themselves. Essentially she got really lucky and amassed power fast enough that she's the top dog of the spiritual world on Tsushima Island. Then with Tsukabaatr, he took advantage of the destabilization to gain increased power over the dead. The destabilization of Ki on Tsushima is the main explanation as to how all these normally impossible things are happening. But it was the destabilization and subsequent upset of spiritual balance that allowed the 4 ghosts of Legends to return from their rest to restore the balance. Also in Caravan of Thieves it wasn't the Buddha statue that held the spirit, it was a small idol that is in the wagon behind the statue. You don't inspect the statue, you inspect the cart. This is all just my understanding, maybe I'm completely off base and don't know what I'm talking about. Either way this expansion was amazing and I hope we get a sequel set during the second Mongol invasion of Japan!

One of the things that makes your theory fall apart for me is what you mentioned about Gyozen being able to write. While Gyozen is able to write, he writes too neatly and uniformly, consistently. That's almost way too well for a blind person. Not to mention his drawings all include great detail. Secondly, we do not know for certain whether Gyozen is truly blind or not. All we see is an old man with bandages wrapped around his eyes, and he does seem to be aware of things around him, although it is plausible his other senses are trained. However, we do not know whether Gyozen was born blind, or if he became blind via an injury. We also do not know how long he has been blind, if he is truly blind. Also, when you approach Gyozen, sometimes he says that he specifically knew in person, a man who made a deal with tengu, aka Uchitsune, since Uchitsune is the only character in "Ghost of Tsushima" who was said to have interacted with a tengu. Especially considering you encounter a man wearing a tengu mask when trying to find Uchitsune's longbow. Also, Gyozen seems to be aware that there is only one Ghost. Whenever I've approached him in the single player game, he always addresses Jin in the singular or as "my lord", never in the plural. Lastly, not everyone in "Ghost of Tsushima: Legends" wears a mask. One of the outfits for the hunter, the special outfit with the "Horizon Zero Dawn" theme, doesn't include a mask, just a headband. On a last note, you have yet to do a video on what you think of "The Tale of Iyo."

This puts her on the level of onryo, but there's a double thing going on where it seems she absorbed her unborn child's soul, and that makes her unnaturally powerful, and perhaps the only way she could be described in that instance is "onibaba," being both a demon and an ancient woman herself. Second, the real Tsushima island has a legend of a priestess woman who has a virgin birth and the child has supernatural powers. These are the things Suckerpunch was inspired by when they made their story of Iyo, and the stuff with Sukhbaatar and the oni were just ways to recycle Mongol assets and map locations for good slashy fun.

I think legends mode is probably sucker punch wanting to create a fun multiplayer mode. Although, I feel they might have taken some creative liberties in order to create a easy to follow story and easy to understand set up. But, I can't say for sure.

Alright, tried some Bokksu, bought some chestnut pies, makino, dondon yaki, and two different rice cakes... Aside makino, were good.

I remember when this game first dropped and people were all pissed and/or worried about an American company trying to depict Japanese history. Of course, we all know now they nailed it, which I figured they would because historical events are recorded and can be factually checked. However, as much as I love all things Shintō, I had the same concerns when they announced they'd be dipping into folklore, because there's soooooo many nuances to Japanese mythology that you can't glean just from reading a quick summary. For example, "all monsters bad, birdman must be evil" and "ghost manipulation" are pretty Western ways of thinking and it totally bugged me as well. That said, living out a Noh play is a PHENOMENAL way to look at it because Noh plays are goddamn WILD. I'm definitely still on the fence, but it's a lot easier to deal with knowing I can just play Nioh if I'm really craving authenticity.

Could the red stuff on the torii gates be kegare because kegare is cause by death and disease and it looks kinda similar from what i saw in the spirited away video
