I've said for years that despite the overall quality of the film, no design will ever top Ghost Rider's look in SOV, and I still stand by that. I love the black skull and bubbling melted jacket combo. The thick black smoke he emitts from the flames is the icing on the cake for me. The MCU is gonna need to produce something special to make him look better than he did in this film.

one of the best written and edited JoBlo videos to date. the "no way home"-bit was absolutely genius. :D and yeah, this movie had lots of potential. for me Neveldine/Taylor were the perfect choice back then. i followed the production of this movie very closely and was absolutely devastated when i read about Sony's budget cuts and making it pg13. this clearly was not what Neveldine/Taylor signed up for and destroyed much of the vision they had for this project. up to this point it was a passion project for them. but it seems like, after the studio meddling, they've lost most of their passion and just wanted to put the production behind them as soon as possible. delivering a movie, that always seemed to be driving with the brakes on. the complete opposite of their former work. with the original vision this still might not have been a flawless movie, but it had the potential to become a cult hit. a few years later, the "Deadpool" movie delivered the perfect example of what Sony could have had if they weren't a bunch of cowardly hacks. greetings from germany :)

A detailed retrospective of "GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE" (2011) sheds light on the sequel's pitfalls and missed opportunities, juxtaposed against its predecessor to analyze what could have propelled the franchise forward. Despite Nicolas Cage's reprisal of Johnny Blaze and Neveldine/Taylor's dynamic direction, the film struggled to captivate audiences and critics, attributed mainly to budget constraints, an ill-suited PG-13 rating, and perhaps a creative vision that didn't resonate with the character's darker aspects. **Good Aspects of Both Films:** - **Original "Ghost Rider" (2007):** The first film found commercial success and effectively captured the Ghost Rider's dark, supernatural essence. Its visual effects, particularly the flaming skull and bike, along with Cage's compelling performance, were visually striking. - **"Spirit of Vengeance":** Aimed to reinvigorate the franchise with Neveldine/Taylor's electrifying directorial style. Although its potential was not fully realized, the intent to inject fresh energy into the Ghost Rider saga was evident. **Areas for Improvement and Integration:** - **Narrative Depth:** Both films lacked substantial narrative depth. Integrating social commentary and exploring the human condition could have added layers of complexity, making the Ghost Rider's struggle more relatable. - **R-Rating:** Adopting an R-rating could have allowed for a more authentic depiction of the Ghost Rider universe, unshackling filmmakers to explore its darker, more violent elements freely. - **Adherence to Source Material with Innovation:** Maintaining fidelity to the comic books while innovatively adapting screen-unfriendly elements could have yielded a more cohesive and compelling cinematic experience. Recognizing and innovating upon what worked in the comics could have fortified the films' connection to their origins and audience expectations. **Potential for a Third Film:** The prospect of a third "Ghost Rider" film presents an opportunity to amalgamate the first two installments' strengths and lessons. A blend of visual spectacle and unrestrained storytelling, particularly under an R-rating, could authentically capture the Ghost Rider saga's raw intensity and moral complexity. Enriching the narrative with thoughtful social commentary and a creative yet faithful adaptation of the comics could deeply engage audiences, offering entertainment and intellectual stimulation. Both "Ghost Rider" films, despite their challenges, showcased the franchise's latent potential. A balanced approach that honors the source material's strengths, paired with bold storytelling and a dive into darker thematic territories, could significantly uplift the franchise's quality and impact in a third installment.
