A REAL father and daughter connection. Melinda gets her smile, looks (hair color) and kindness from Paul Eastman, her biological father and I think it's beautiful now that the truth about her real family is out in the open with happy results. I just think he should've stayed on the show to meet his grandson Aiden.😉😘 He is very handsome and a lot more interesting than Tom Gordon. I didn't like Tom at all.

Daniella Mccallum Paul Eastman is her biological father indeed. I don't know why she has kept Gordon? Maybe because it's not easy to change of name in the US as her father needs to declare her and here, he is dead?

You have to correct every document, your entry in the registration office, your mail account, your bank account, every online account, your shipping address, your entry in the phone book, your data in every database, your shipping address,... Also she is already known as Melinda Gordon. If she would change her name some people who don't see her all day may not recognize her with her new name. Also it would be difficult for the viewers if the main character suddenly has another name. Everyone knows her as Melinda Gordon. If she would change names some viewers may be confused and wonder it is still the same main character or are new one.

Biancamaria Valenti this is the season 3 finale. Jim dies in season 4 hence the missing shadow. Plus in season 2 (I think) Jim had a Latin word written on his back that meant death of a loved one.

Three possibilities for the missing shadow: Mel’s mother (Anne Archer), who never returned to the series. Payne, who left after S4 E1 for his own show. Jim, who dies in S4. The last implies the writers had already planned that far ahead.

@@genedubois5693 The answer is simple. Andrea is a spirit. Didn't you watch season 1? Andrea died at the end. That was the episode with the plane crash and the 230 spirits. Episode 21 and 22. Her car was hit by that plane and she was killed immediately. She died so quick that she didn't even notice that she is dead and Melinda tries nearly the whole episode 22 to tell her that because she can feel if someone is alive or a spirit. But she is in this scene and this is season 3. So this only means that Rick can now see spirits too but he can't feel if someone is alive or a spirit. So he thinks Andrea is alive and wonders why there are only 5 shadows.

I think it's season 3 episode 18. The missing shadow belongs to Andrea. She died in season 1 episode 21 and Melinda told her in episode 22. That's the season final.

facemaus12 Andrea was long gone. The shadows are a foreshadowing for one of the six characters standing on the curb. The choices are Beth or Payne, who left the show, or Jim, who died.
