Wake of a whisper, thirteen years unspoken passed Silhouettes at the table, in the candle's shadow cast The muse and the mystery lost and neither still remain The spectre of tragedy ever lingers like a stain And regret is the rule of the day All the things they'd forgotten to say So they chose not to start as they drifted apart While the innocence melted away And it's a long way down when the promise is already gone All the dreams we found then have faded with time, and it's time to move on Here surrounded, too proud to give up but too tired to carry you home What a way to be free Shell of a memory from an artificial life Matchsticks and ashes, only figures marking time He just stares out the window, scars and vacant eyes Gripped by the haunting and the loss he kept inside So she carries the weight of the world And she buries the dreams of a girl And she wonders if time will be aging like wine Or the pain that created the pearl 'Cause it's a long way down when the promise is already gone All the dreams we found then have faded with time, and it's time to move on Here surrounded, too proud to give up but too tired to carry you home Run away to be free

That D5 at the end... It's not a major chord, not a minor, it's just a 5th, letting you decide if the ending is sad or happy, allowing your mind to fill the chord with whether a major or minor 3rd. *That is just brilliant*
@rickyjagodowski69 Жыл бұрын
Okay, I know I'm about to get myself into trouble for replying to a three year old comment but I have to ask: first, isn't it C#, not D? and second, doesn't the preceding C# major chord imply C# major at the end? Imagining a C# minor at the end sounds _really_ out of place in my opinion.
@hecdavid11 Жыл бұрын
@@rickyjagodowski69 No trouble at all man 😄. First, yes! It is a C#5, I just based my comment on the chord fingering he was using and didn't bother grabbing my guitar to check 😅. Anyways, I was wrong there, good call. Second, yes, the previous progression implies it's ending on a major C# chord but even if a C#m sounds off to you, doesn't mean it's impossible to end it like that. It's been done before, sometimes it doesn't work, sometimes it does 😁
@rickyjagodowski69 Жыл бұрын

Still brings tears to my eyes. This is what we called in the 80s (hair metal) a power ballad. Of all the PBs I can recall. Whether it be Slaughter, Saigon Kick, Extreme, Queensryche, Stryper, Kix, Dokken, Poison, KISS, Warrant, Firehouse, White Lion, Cinderella, etc, etc. Nothing, and I mean nothing tops this absolute masterpiece. This is poetry in motion and music. I don't think Matt would ever do this. I'm sure he could use the money. However, if he brought this piece on say an "American Idol" or similar, he would blow all the other competition away. Even the competition would agree and realize that what we have here is a divine prodigy. Possibly something on the order of Salieri on Mozart. (and Amadeus did not fully appreciate his gift) Matt, forgive me for sounding too sycophantic. However, you are just that good. And like Bach, you give All the Glory to God ...

You rock, Matt. With Theocracy you have brought a new life and progression to a genre I had loved and grown up with and then sadly gave up for dead. This song is great too in its own rite. I haven't heard anything that you have produced yet that I didn't admire, and I am pretty hard to please when it comes to music. And there is just something to your talent that gives off such a light and surge of energy that draws one in - I would call it an anointing like David's. God bless you, man.
