FILM DESCRIPTION:
After saving New York City from a ghost attack, the Ghostbusters -- a team of spirit exterminators -- is disbanded for demolishing parts of the city during the battle. But when Ghostbuster Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) learns that spirits have taken an interest in his son, the men launch a rogue ghost-chasing mission. The quest quickly goes awry, landing them in court. But when the ghosts turn on the judge, he issues an order allowing the Ghostbusters to get back to work.

And the worst thing is Jack committed the Ghostbusters to the psychiatric ward at Parkview Hospital and it was because of Jack's own stupidity and of course pigheadedness or as Ray likes to put it budgie brain is responsible for the pandemonium that turn New York into the 10th level of hell

@@NYRyder1983I love this movie, but yeah I found this weird. At least in the first movie nobody had seen what was about to happen, so the mayor being confused makes sense. Here, after he saw the Ghostbusters save the day once (and effectively prove themselves after the courtroom scene), he doubts them and doesn’t listen to him here?

He eventually had a change of heart after learning of what Hardermeyer did to the Ghostbusters, which caused him to fire Hardermeyer. He admitted that he let New York "get sucked down into the 10th level of Hell."

It’s possible he was also being affected by the slime, as Winston said just touching it enraged them so it probably enhances negative emotions in minor ways.

Lenny's reelection for mayor and future bid for governor could have been compromised if he continued to support the GB's after paranormal activity calmed down. It was a political move and not personal as I get the feeling he still, privately, believed. Having people like Hardemeyer around only reinforced this course of action but a little quality time with the ghost of Fiorello La Guardia changed that. He also considered the GB's a last resort when he said: "We've got no choice, call the Ghostbusters." At the end of the day, he's a politician trying to be pragmatic under abnormal circumstances. At least he publicly thanked and awarded them the key to the city in the end.

Instead of going to the press, the GB's should have geared up and gone directly to the museum. With no slime shell or Oscar in hand, Vigo would have been more vulnerable. Hardemeyer shipping them off to the nervous hospital allowed Vigo to keep his plan on track just as Peck shutting down the ECU allowed Gozer to invade sooner.
