From what I understand, the character of Venkman was originally written for John Belushi, who would pass away before filming commenced. With all due respect to the departed, I truly cannot see anyone else but Bill Murray as Venkman.

The funny thing is that the experiment actually works. The dude getting electric shocks STARTS predicting the patterns. But Venkman cares so much about the supernatural, that he prefers to flirt with the girl instead of paying attention to the phenomena happening in front of him.

How huge worlds that in real life would be countries the size of the US, shrunk to 10 sq km (which is like 3.3 x 3.3 km), so everything interesting is in close proximity? It's like that in movies too. They have a 2 minutes scene to establish Venkman character. It's implied the experiment had been going on for some time and that is working with the guy, exactly as Venkman explained the experiment. But it would be a very boring movie if they had to show it working in a statistically significant way

The thing is Peter's experiment seems to be doing something. Each shock that he gives that boy seems to bring the boy closer to the right answer while the girl's answers are way off. When that boy gets the correct answer, Peter won't even show him the card and shocks him just for pure enjoyment, which would be considered harassing a student. That boy might actually have ESP and when you see him storm out, it's like Peter may have let someone with actual ESP slip away. But Peter doesn't care because all he cares about is getting close to that girl. Each ghostbuster is described differently and according to Akroyd and Ramis, Peter is described as the lazy, cynical ghostbuster. When doing an experiment or when on the job, his focus is often elsewhere such as what kind of money they can make and any women that are involved. He's often not convinced as easily as the others. Peter is a smart man, as he has 2 PHDs, he just doesn't apply himself as much as he should. It's one thing to be a scientist but it's another thing to act like one as Dana later mentions that he doesn't act like a scientist, he's more like a gameshow host.

@@sa4540 Negative reinforcement is when something is removed from the mix that by doing so it makes a desirable behavior more likely to continue, for instance a child who has been good doesn't have to do a certain regular chore for a week would be an example. Positive punishment is when something is added to the mix, something unpleasant, to make an undesirable behavior less likely to continue, such as in this case where Peter shocks the guy whenever he gives a wrong answer. By shocking him Peter is hoping he will give less wrong answers.

Been looking for a full version of this clip for a while, because I remembered something from it that many don't notice. While many people know that prior to the gadgets like the Proton Packs and Traps being made, that they used real life parapsychology tech of the time.
