True there were alot of dip$#!+$ that hated 2016 because it was an all female cast BUT the real reason everyone else hated it was because it was a reboot, I bet you anything that had it been released as a continuation instead of as a middle finger to the original ( especially so close to Ramis's death) it would've been much more warmly received.

There wasn't as much animosity toward Ghostbusters 2016 as they portrayed. I don't care what critics said, and I know it's not nearly as fondly looked upon, I still enjoy the hell out of Ghostbusters 2. The first half is brilliantly written, acted, and paced. I was lucky to have seen GB2 on opening weekend as a child, so it's always held a special place in my heart. However, even at the time, I remember having a couple of issues with it, such as The Ghostbusters being out of business, and Dana and Peter not being together. As an adult, those are still issues for me, but not big ones, and while the actors mug for the camera a bit more and the first hour has a moment or two that lags, I still love the film! GB2 has a terrific villain, and side villain, some great busting moments, another great montage sequence, good acting from everyone, new tech which was a lot of fun, a scarier tone at times, and a nice new finale location that I found to be inventive. It's a fun film and what I consider to be the second best in the series next to the original. I liked Afterlife, but even with the great CGI Egon and a very good first 90 minutes, it falls in third place for me next to the first two.

Hades could be an equal or more powerful than Gozer. "Samhain" would be another choice for a Ghostbusters film, set it on Halloween,keep it a small more personal story like Afterlife,know the time and place for humor and it could be something fans can appreciate(it also could spawn a Halloween classic in the process)

I really loved The River of Slime from Ghostbusters 2 the most. Of all the iconic things in this franchise, it was THE THING, because of abandoned subway tunnels. This is something from Spider-Man, from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (secret of the ooze) from various TV shows. You need New York City to have something drawing characters to secret tunnels! Also, the 2016 reboot was just offensively not-finny like Movie 43. Bad jokes, and doubling down on them.

I literally cannot find one post, anywhere on the internet that comes close to "this movie will suck because women suck." You literally can't find it anywhere except when simps like Jo Blo say just trust them, it was "overhated" which flat out isn't true. Regardless of your opinion of the reboot, the two things that I do genuinely find annoying is all the people that believe it did well financially. It didn’t. The marketing cost almost as much, if not more, than the film making budget was. Far too expensive for the end result. And also too much of an action films. Strange choices throughout. The second is the overblown ‘hate reaction’. Very few comments were posted compared to the dislikes. But no. Everyone that hates the reboot is a misogynist. It’s always a good idea to hate your audience before you watch a film

Ghostbusters was absolutely a product of its time. I'm sure modern audiences would find it a bit slow and might actively hate some of the characters we are supposed to like and agree with some of the characters we're supposed to hate. Like, Peck was right. He was an ass, but he was right. Ghostbusters II was not a lackluster rehashing of the first film. Just as you pointed out: it tried new things. I applaud it for doing that. More sequels should do that. Stolen babies, haunted paintings, slime that feeds on emotion, and The Statue of Liberty are all great new bits. I still like the first one more and consider The Real Ghostbusters cartoon as a better sequel. The Ghostbusters video game, on the other hand, suffered greatly by just saying "hey remember that stuff from the movies? let's do that again!" I mean, it's fine. It's fine. But I wanted something new. I already played the first movie on my Commodore-64 back in the day. Ghosbusters 2016 was bad, not because it was all woman, but because Paul Feig decided to forgo a coherent script or screenplay and rely on lots of improvisation. That was a terrible idea. Although it did help us learn that Chris Hemsworth was actually quite good at comedy. I haven't seen Ghostbusters Afterlife because it seemed like nostalgia-bait and nothing I've heard about it has changed that impression.
@derek-642 жыл бұрын
The original Ghostbusters is a classic for sure. Can't top it. However, i also find Ghostbusters II enjoyable as well even if it isn't as good, but most certainly NOT mediocre so you take that back! As for the cartoons i've only seen a few random clips here and there. With the 2016 movie they got it all wrong. And with everything i heard about it behind the scenes, agendas, etc, is it any wonder why it flopped? It's not just a matter of hating on it for no reason. It was a slap in the face to the franchise and to fans alike. It is an abomination and a disgrace! With Afterlife i enjoyed it. Yeah, it went in a different direction than the first two but it was different in a good way and it respected and homage to the originals even if they got a little carried away. Sure it wasn't perfect but a worthy successor and although i hadn't heard anything about another sequel i will definitely check it out if it's anything like Afterlife.

It deserves more praise than it gets. The animated shows, Real and Extreme, were *way* better than they had any right to be. The game was a ton of fun. 2016 was... not good... and was really a great example of everything wrong with Hollywood's attitude towards and goals with reboots. Afterlife was a nostalgic blast and a ton of fun with less substance than I would prefer but was a great, family friendly romp, with a lot of heart.

There are connections in Afterlife to both cartoon series as well (Real and Extreme). Reitman, Ramis and Aykroyd worked on both those series and considered them part of the continuity as well. Leading up to Afterlife's release the Ghostbusters KZbin channel was releasing full episodes of both along with the teasers/interviews/snippets to bring it all together. The Ecto-One is even modified the way it was in Extreme. 2016 and the IDW comics are really the only stories that are not connected. 2016 was actually not bad, it was funny for the most part, I am not a fan of Kristen Whig or McCarthy, and was not happy with them being cast, but when i finally watched it on DVD I did enjoy it, but yeah, it's not cannon or necessary to watch.

I am a huge fan of the original two, and yes, I thought the second one was great too. That being said, gender aside the 2016 was just a bad film. They didn't understand what made Ghostbusters great, they simple did not understand the source material. It may have been more successful if they had released it as something else, but by calling it Ghostbusters people expected a Ghostbusters film, which it was not.

Yeah, 2016 was a perfectly okay movie, a little too far into the Melissa McCarthy brand of humor, but the only thing that really prejudiced me against it before watching it was the ads and interviews where Feig and even Bill Murray go on about how the script and the cast are the funniest ever. Just couldn't stand all that smug, that campaign of "this will be the best, because it's almost all women in the crew" was also pretty bad.

I agree with your Paul Feig GB comments. Question. Do you consider Ramis the "straight man" or Ernie Hudson to provide responses or commentary on the insane comedy from Akroyd and Murray? Regardless, who was the "straight person" of the Paul Feig GB? They were all SNL comedy nerds, and Melissa Mcarthy. All comedic talents. Who played the "straight person" they were supposed to be bookend-ed by? This is why all comedy duos had someone to play off of. Debbie Reynolds in Singing in the Rain, Abbott of Abbott and Costello, Rose Byrne of Bridesmaids (Feig). They needed someone non-comedic and Chris Hemsworth was trying to be Janine (fail). Casting was the main failure. Not that they were women, but the cast had no person to play off of or be reacted to. Kristen Wiig was the closest, but she was also the BEST KNOWN SNL CAST MEMBER at the time (Kate Mckinnon, we love you!).

GHOSTBUSTERS, had a steady pace, and had a serious story with subtle humor. THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS, was great, smart dialogue and detailed stories (up until the later versions that changed voices, had less action, and focused on slimer). GHOSTBUSTERS II, had a lot of changes to make it more kid friendly, and the main villain practically did nothing but stand and growl. It would've been more impressive if he were more of a direct force. GHOSTBUSTERS 2016, I had nothing against the actresses nor the idea of a female team. BUT, the primary reasons why it didn't work... Those who made the film were TRYING TOO HARD with their comedy. The villain was weak and annoying. And with all that drama leading up to the premiere of the movie, their Labelling of fans didn't help. I do not fit any of the categories they threw out there at those who didn't not like the movie. And besides, my Girlfriend had discontent about the movie before I noticed the same reasons. (RAMIS) If only Bill Murray hadn't been so pathetic of an egocentric jerk, a new movie could have been made in the 90s or early 2000s. I like his humor from many of his successful films (which all had to deal with his drama). But, his behavior towards Harold Ramis definitely held every opportunity back. Now Ramis is gone. GHOSTBUSTERS 2009 GAME, I never got to play it, but just watching its movie online. It was amazingly done. It had the same atmosphere and a broader story that interweaved with the original. I'm surprised Murray was able to do Some of the dialogue (I heard he skipped out on additional dialogue by the end of the production). GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE, It was good they were able to finally get a story together that did not focus on humor. One that connected with the original. And one that had folks from it. Though, I do agree they could have cut back on half the nostalgia. I hope their next run is more of its own. And if anything, definitely they should keep Ernie Hudson along with additional movies.

Answer the Call wasn't that as bad as many people think. It was definitely not as good as the original, but I did love McKinnon and Hemsworth in it. It did misfire with some elements, but so did GBII. One thing I hated about Afterlife was that many of the jokes didn't land because they were funny - they landed because it was "See,here's something from the first movie." It relied far too much on nostalgia and didn't add very much new to the franchise.
@HappyBirthdayRoboto2 жыл бұрын
Interesting how different people react to the same art; I love Ghostbusters and loved Ghostbusters 2 as a kid but looked less favourably on it as I grew older. I actually like the Answer the Call reboot, it was a new start with new characters and it kept the core concept, but everything I loved about the franchise was destroyed by Afterlife, it shows the Ghostbusters not as a triumphant group that went out on top but fizzled out with Egon stealing their equipment and becoming a deadbeat dad growing old on a dirt farm, it was a too little too late sad ending. But the one version of the franchise that, in my heart, I consider to be the true version of the franchise is The Real Ghostbusters cartoon, it had all the characters I loved on amazing adventures.

Believe it or not when I was 13 I was hyped as all fuck for 2016. In my eyes I wasn’t paying attention to a lot of the hate it was getting, I was just excited to get a new Ghostbusters movie. I prefer the direction the franchise is going now but I absolutely appreciate the effort Paul Feig and those Women put in. It’s clear they loved working on it, just suffered from a messy script. In my opinion most of the criticisms towards it that weren’t about story were mostly Sexist, Racist, and Homophobic. A lot of ugly and nasty people who didn’t give a shit about Ghostbusters were suddenly claiming to be “fans” and were ready to go on a crusade to “protect their childhood”

Why did you guys didn't mention Celeste O'Connor role as Lucky in Ghostbusters afterlife???

I saw Ghostbusters when it came out in theaters when I was 10. Loved the idea but mostly it was the way the cast interacted. When they announced a reboot I didn't bother. They could have cast anyone man or woman and I wouldn't have been interested. It was the original cast that made the movie.

I may have misheard but it seems like you said that this movie introduced Sigourney Weaver but Alien was out before this. This was 84 and Alien was 79.

2016 backlash was caused by Hollywood and the actresses not the fans.

The only thing I need to know about is Bill Murray and original cast, in original two movies.

It's a good film, worth watching for sure but it always struck me as overrated for what it was. Pretty much like Bill Murray himself.
